PAGE SIX Frances Rose Is Engaged To R. M. White The engagement of Miaa Char lotte Frances Rose, daughter of James C. Rose and the late Mrs. Rose of Waynesville to Richard Mitchell White of Richmond. Va , has been announced by her father.^ The bride-elect a graduate of Brevard College, Brevard, and Cecil's Business College, Asheville, and is presently employed by the Farmers Home Administration, U. S. Department of Agriculture, at Waynesvil' f. Mr. White is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. White of Glendale, Calif. He attended the University of Michigan and is a graduate of Richmond Business College, Richmond. Va. He is also employed by the Farmers Home Administration with headquarters in Washington, D. C. The wedding is planned for late May. ? ? * WSCS Will Hold Annual Dinner Meet The annual Fellowship Dinner of the Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the First Methodist Church will be held Tuesday eve ning. May 10. in the dining room of the church. This will be a covered dish din ner and will mark the close of the year for the Society. The pageant takes place in the court of King Mark of Wales and celebrates the birthday of Queen Anne. Each year the May Day program depicts in pageant form an out standing historical event. A state highway depart ment rotary snow plow was pressed into service for fighting a hotel lire at this resort high on the slopes of Mt. Hood. The hotel burned down but the plume of snow played by the road clearing vehicle helped keep the flames from spreading to other buildings. Morning Star Club Is Hostess To Aliens Creek The Morning Star Home Dem onstration Club was hostess to the Aliens Creek Club on Monday af ternoon. at the home of Mrs. R. C. Cossett. Mrs. Howard Cole, presi dent of the hostess group, opened the meeting with a devotional on "Friendship" and welcomed the Aliens Creek members. A demonstration on "Food Con servation" was presented by Miss Mary Comwell, home agent. A recreational period was direct ed by Mrs. Gordon Sharp and a orize was awarded to Mrs. Denton Browning for constructing the most attracfive miniature flower ar rangement from modeling clay and artificial flowers. A training course for all offi cers of the Woman's Society of Christian Service qf Methodist -hurdies in Haywood County will be held Tuesday, May 10 at the ?^irst Methodist Church in Canton. The program will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until 1 o'clock. Those attending are re ouested to bring sandwiches for ?unch. The course is planned primarily 'or officers of the Woman's Society but all members are invited. The climax of the weekend will be the annual Moth er's Day dress parade of cadets Sunday afternoon. * * * THE AARON HYATTS ARRIVE FOR VISIT Airman First Class and Mrs. Aaron Hyatt and their small son Gregory are here to spend a 30 day leave with Airman Hyatt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Hy att, and Mrs. Hyatt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rogers. They have been stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa, Fla., for the past eighteen months and will go from here to a new assignment at El mendorf Air Forte Base, Anchor age, Alaska. Airman Hyatt is a member of the Air Force Band. ? * * Miss Louise Ballard and Miss Lou Elva Eller are expected to return today from Durham where they attended the annual meeting of the Garden Club of North Caro lina.
