Bottoms was the guest speaker at the May meeting of the Town and Country Garden Club of Canton Monday evening in the home of Mi's. L. A. Coman, Jr. Mrs. Albert P. Cline, Jr., was asso I elate hostess. Mrs. Bottoms spoke on "Prin ciples of Flower An angement." | Mrs. Carl E. Powell, president, presided, and appointed the follow ing to serve on the property com mittee of the annual Canton Flow er Show on August 19: Mrs. J. C. Devlin, Mrs. James L. Setzer and Mrs. B. M. Burrus. Mrs. Eleanor G. Jacocks, boau tiflcation chairman, discussed the club beautification project. She announced plans to plant flowers and shrubs on a vacant lot on Pisgah Drive. Mrs. Donald W. Randolph gave a report of a recent meeting of the Canton Council of Garden Clubs. Flower arrangements brought to the meeting by Mrs. Carey T. Wells. Jr., Mrs. T. F. Hyatt, and Mrs. B. M. Burrus were discussed by the group and judged by Mrs. Bottoms. A social hour was held, and re freshments were served by the hostesses. Twenty-one members were present, ? * * Miss Dot Liner has arrived from Greensboro College to spend the summer vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Liner at Lake Junaluska. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Howe of Fort Myers, Fla., have arrived at their summer home on the Walker Road. Schools and colleges will be permitted to borrow old cleaning tools tor classroom study. (International) Canton Bridge Club Honors Mrs. Witters Mrs. J. E. Witters was honored by members of her bridge club at a dinner party Tuesday night in the home of Mrs. F. M. Byer^, Jr. on Halyburton Street. Arrangements of white and yel low chrysanthemums and gladioli were used in the living and dining rooms. Following dinner several pro gressions of bridge were played, ligh score prize was won by Mrs. Harlton Peyton, and Mrs. Edward E. Conley was the guest speaker at the regular meet ing of the Gamma Epsilon Chap j ter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Monday evening in the club room of the Champion yMCA. Mrs. Conley's subject was "Arts and Crafts". She illustrated her talk with a number of handmade articles. Gerringer, both student nurses at Duke Uni versity, will spend the weekend with their parents. Tom Reeves Is Re-Elected Head Of Canton YMCA Ton: Hooves has been re-elected president of the Canton YMCA by the board of directors. Others elected for one-year terms include: Edwin Hayncs, vice president, Henry Mitchell, secretary and Howard Hamphill, treasurer. Members elected to the Board of Directors for three year term by .the Y members are Louis Gates, Edwin Haynes, W. Thomas Reeves, D. E. Morgan, and George M. Trostel. One-third of the Board Members are elected each year, to serve three years. Ea^h adult member of the YMCA has the pri vilege of voting for the Board of Directors, as outlined by the Inter national Association. Other Board men are W. W. Mit chell, James M.
