Medford - Ensley Wedding Is Held MIm Judy Norfleet Ensley. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ensley of Sunburst Ranch near Canton, beefcme the bride of Bruce Medford. son ?f Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Modford of Canton. R. F D. 1. Friday, June 8, at 7 p.m. in the home of her parents. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John O. Smith, pastor af the Dutch Cove Baptist Church. MIm Kathryn Cod> of Canton, pianist, presented a program of music. The bride, given In marriage by her father, wore a dress of white eyelet orgondy, fashioned with a scalloped neckline and a fitted bodice. The bouffant skirt was do signed with panels of evelet. Her veil of illusion fell from a small rap of Matching organdy, and she carried o white Bible topped with white lilies and baby's breath. Her only ornament was a single strand of pearls, gift of the bridegroom Miss Ernestine Patrick of Can ton was maid of honor. Her dress was of mint green eyelet organdy, and her accessories were white. She wore a wrist corsage of lilies and baby's breath Bluest Ivester of Canton, cousin of the bride, was best man. Ush ers were: Bruce Ensley, brother of the bride, and Fred Farrls of Cramertou, M. C. * After the ceremony a reception was held. Those who assisted in serving were: Mrs. Fred Farris. 1 Mrs. Ernest Ivester, Mrs. Noble Garrett, Jr., Mrs. W. R. Allen. Mrs. Eugene Grogan, and Miss Janie Poddy. * The couple left for a wedding trip. Brownie Scouts Have 'Fly-Up' A fly-up ceremony for members of Brownie Girl Scout Troop 65 was held Friday at the Hazelwood Scout Hut. Girls advancing from Brownie to Intermediate Girl Scout were Linda Lane Kay Bryson, Linda Robinson, Sheila Ballance, Dar lene Curtis, Mary Frances Ketner, and Martha MeCracken. Mrs. Paul Bryson, troop leader, conducted the ceremony and pins were presented by Mrs. Clyde Fisher, neighborhood chairman. The Rev. John Kizer spoke on "Doing Your Best." Refreshments were served by Mrs. Sam Lane following the pro gram. Mothers of the girls were guests. * * * - Canton Personals Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Witters left Friday to make their home in northern Michigan. Dr. Witters re tired recently after serving as plant physician at The Champion Paper & Fibre Company during the past five years. Mr. and Mrs. Gudger Worley and children, Miss Maude Worley, Miss Pearl Worley, and Joe Wor ley left Saturday for a vacation trip to Los Angeles, California. They expect to be away for ap proximately one month. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chambers and two sons left Friday for Los Angeles, California where they will visit Mr. and Mrs. Wiley C. Jones and family. Mrs. Jones is the daughter of Mr. and Mts. Cham bers. En route they will visit Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wright in, Roswell, New Mexico. Mr.' and Mrs. Dan Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kevlon left Fri day to spend a few days at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Capt and Mrs. George Reuss and daughters. Miriam and Georg ia Hunt, arrived Thursday from Germany to visit Mrs. Reuss' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry H. Harts horn. Capt. Reuss has served with the U. S. Army in Germany during the past three years. Airman Second Class Benjamin B. Lattimer, and children are visit ing relatives here before going to Anchorage. Alaska. Lane Prevost Completes Wedding Plans Miss Dorothy Lane Prevost, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Prevost, Jr. has completed the plans for her marriage to James Norwood Swift, son .of Mr. and Mrs. William Faucette Swift, Sr. The ceremony will take place in the Waynesville Presbyterian Church, Friday, June 17, at 8 p.m. The Rev. Malcolm Williamson, former pastor of the church, will officiate and the wedding music will be presented by Stanford Massie, organist, and Mrs. James L. Kilpatrick, soloist. The bride will be given in mar riage by her father and will have as her maid of honor her sister, Miss Joan Prevost. Smiley Miss Lilla Caroline Gates, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis E. Gates of Canton, became the bride of Lt. Thomas Norman Smiley of the U. S. Armv, son of Lt. Cut. and Mrs. Frank H. Smiley of Merehantville, N. J., Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in the Central Methodist Church of Canton. The Rev. Cecil G. Hefner, pas tor of the church, performed the ceremony. Miss Janice Smathers, organist of Clyde, presented a program of wedding music. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a street-length dress of pink crystallette and a matching duster. The dress was de signed with a fitted bodice, and the neckline was trimmed with white crystallette. Her white lace hat was studded with rhinestones, and her accessories were white. She carried a nosegay of pink and white roses and gypsophila. Mrs. W. Phillip Shattuck of Asheville wag matron of honor. She wore a dress of blue shantung with white accessories, and carried a nosegay of mixed spring flowers. John William Smiley served as his brother's best man. .Ushers were: Robert Smiley, brother of the bridegroom; Louis E. Gates, Jr., brother of the bride; and Rich ard Helms Tait, brother-in-law of the bride. Following the ceremony a recep tion was held in the garden at the home of the bride's parents. The couple left for a wedding trip through western North Caro lina and Virginia. For traveling the bride wore a suit of dusty rose gabardine with navy and whita accessories and a corsage of white roses. Lt. Smiley will be stationed in Germany. Mrs. Smiley expects to Join her husband in the fall. Mrs. Smiley was graduated from Canton High School and Greens boro College. She is employed as Minister of Music at St. Mark's Methodist Church in Petersburg, Virginia. Lt. Smiley is a graduate of Merehantville High School, Valley Forge Military Academy and Jun ior College, and Temple Univer sity. * ? ? Mrs. Ellis Is Hostess To Sorority The Alpha Theta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority met Thursday night in the home of Mrs. Ray Ellis. Mrs. Raymond Caldwell presid ed during the business hour at which time Mrs. Jack Klopp was elected vice president to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs. Lloyd Warren. Announcement was made that Hettle Franklin of WaynesVille lias been awarded the annual sorority scholarship. A decision was reached to hold the annual July Fourth Dance and Mrs. Rufus Pannell was named general chairman of the event.
