PAUL HIGHTOWER And RUTH HELEN BOONE Community Reporters Tom Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Franklin, has been suffering from severe foot injuries for the past four weeks and is now undergoing a plastic surgery oper ation at the Mission Hospital in Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy King of Vir ginia are visiting Mrs. King's fath er, Mr. Hedrick, who is suffering from injuries received while fish ing two weeks ago. The regular H.D. Club meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Frank Christopher last Thursday night. The subject was: "Quick and Easy Meals". Airman First Class Joseph Rick man, son of Mrs. Rhoda Rickman is home on leave after spending eighteen months at his base in Okinawa. A large crpwd attended the Ice Cream Supper Saturday night at the church. The supper was spon sored by the Community Develop ment Program. Capacity Crowd Hears Singers At Courthouse A capacity crowd gathered at the courthouse here Sunday after noon to hear the twelve singing groups participating on the pro gram of the regular quarterly Hay wood County singing convention. Tom Queen, vice president of the convention, served as master of ceremonies and Ray Parker, presi dent, greeted the singers and guests. Featured on the program were the Davis Trio of Gastonia, the Mellow Tone Quartet of Swanna noa, the Victory Quartet of Hay wood County, the Smith Duet of Jackson County, the Church of God Trio of Hazetwood, and the Crawford Quartet of Sylva. The Haywood delegation was Hodges' office, the executive com mittee of the university's board of trustees freed Gray for the job by granting an indefinite leave of ab sence. Hodges said the leave would begin about July 15 and would not run as long as two years. The committee declined to ac cept the resignation which Presi dent Gray offered in order to take the federal assignment. In Gray's absence, the executive committee placed with University Provost J.
