Mrs. David McKaughan of San Diego, California is here to spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stanelli, while her husband is on maneuvers in the Pacific. Mrs. McKaughan is the former Miss Paula Stanelli. Eugenia Boone And Fiance Are Honored . Miss Eugenia Boone and her fiance, James Jeter, were guests of honer at a bridge and samba dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Massie and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Way, Monday evening in the Massie home on the Pigeon Road. The dining room table was cent ered wi.h an arrangement of mix ed garden flowers, flanked by Miiite tapers, and bridal place cards and tallies were used. Following the games, high scare bridge prizes were awarded to Miss Mozelle Liner and James Jet er and samba prizes went to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boone. The bride elect was presented a gift of silver.! The guests included Miss Boone, Mr. Jeter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boone, parents of the bride-elect. Dr. and Mrs. R. R. Jeter, ptyents of the bridegroom-elect, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ray, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bogne, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Whisen hunt, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Sr., of Statesville, Route 4, formerly of Waynesville. , Canton Garden Club Has Study On Roses % The Canton Garden Club met Tuesday morning in the home of Mrg. Roy Trummell on Newfound Street, with Mrs. Marvin Alexan der as joipt hostess. Mrs. A. P. Cline spoke on the subject, *Do You Know Your Moss Rose?" She stated that, although moss roses bloom only once each year, they have interesting pods, and they require less attention than other roses. Mrs. Hugh Keener's subject was, "Roses. Pruning with a Purpose". She advised against pruning be fore Raster or during the fall months. Specimens of roses were judged, and Mrs. Alexander won the blue ribbon. Arrangements suitable for a hall table were also judged. Mrs. W. J. HamDton won the blue rib bon: Mrs. Fred Ferguson, the red ribbon; and Mrs. Herman Eskridge, the yellow ribbon. Mrs. Larry H. Rhymer and their daughter have returned to the States from France and are spending a 30-day furlough with Sgt. Rhymer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Rhymer, in Waynesville. Sgt. Rhymer has, been in the Army for twelve years, most of which have been spent overseas. He will be stationed at Fort Baker, California following his furlough.
