Colorado Welcome Warm For Haywood 4-H Group (EDITOR'S NOTE: The fol lowing article by Estalena Rob inson bf the Haywood County 4-H Exchange Club was written by Miss Robinson last week dur ing her stay in Weld County, Colo.) By ESTALENA ROBINSON We arrived at Greeley Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The tem perature was a warm 94 degrees, i We wdre greeted by the 4-H Coun- i cil, demonstration agents and var-! ious officials. Mayor Oscar Beck and Dr. Ross . from the Colorado State College gave us a very hearty welcome. Then we were introduced to our hosts. After this, refreshments i were served and we were taken into our hosts' homes. The great Western hospitality began then and everybody has been'wqnderful to us since. On Sunday. July 3, most of us attended church with our respec-! tive families After lunch we were guests ot the Chamber of Com merce at the "Go West With Greeley" rodeo, which really lived up to its name. Everyone enjoyed this very much. Sunday evening we attended vesper services, which were very inspiring. On the Fourth of July we attended the big parade and in the evening a get-to-gether picnic and dance.. On July 5 we stayed in our J homes, inspecting and learning the Colorado ways of farming. The method of irrigating all the crops is most impressive. On July 6, we left Greeley and had a tour over most of Weld County. We visited the Monfart feed tots, one of the largest in the United States. They were feeding over 14,000 head of cattle at the time. Then we went to Rockport, where we saw a herd of buffalo and touched into the bordering state of Wyoming. We then con tinued to the Black Hollow oil field. From there we went to the Melvin Carlson far mand saw his registered Guernsey herd, which he started from one cow. We continued to the Mllliken de hydrator, where we saw green chopped alfalfa processed into pel lets. Then on to a canning com pany. where we were shown how pe^s are taken from the vines. Ne^t we stopped off at Gilcrest to see the potato country. Here we were greeted by Earl Cogburn, who came to Colorado from Hay wood County in 1920. We then wept to the S. L. W. Ranch where they have registered Herefords. Last we stopped at the Great Western Sugar Co. Although the plant was not operating at the time, we were briefed on Its opera tions apd given a sample one-pound sack of sugar. Tomorrow we leave Greeley at 7:30 a.m. for a tour to the moun tains, including a trip through the Rocky Mountain National Park, with peaks between 12.000 and 13,000 feet high. On our way back heme, we will be guests at the Colorado Agricul ture and Arts College at Fort Col lins. Here we will have supper with the compliments of the Weld Coupty Leaders Council. Friday will be our last day here and we will be guests at a farewell supper at Our Savior's Lutheran Church parish hall. Sat urday morning we depart for home.
