Conference For 1500 At Lake Set For 5 Days Next July 1 ? . ? i A change In date* for the quad rennial conference of the Metho dist Church's Southeastern Juris diction, to be held at Lake Juna lucka next summer was announced this week by the jurisdictional College of Bishops. The conference will meet July j i 11-19 instead of opening on July | 9, as previously planned, i j i "The change will enable us to 1 avoid conflict with the July 4 holi day and the customary heavy tour ist traffic in Western North Caro lina, and assure more adequate ac eommodations for delegates and I visitors," said Bishop Marvin A. ,. Franklin, Jackson, Miss. He pre- < sided at a meeting of the eplsco- I pal colloge Mondav at Lake Juna luska in the absence of the presi- , dent. Bishop Paul N. Garber, Rich- ] mond. Va. More than 1500 clerical and lay delegates, visitors, and executives , of Methodist boards and agencies are expected to attend the ses sions. The conference is convened every four years as the chief ad- 1 ministrative and promotional body r*>r the church's Southeastern 1 Jurisdiction of nine states and Cuba. Bishop Costen J. Harrell, Charlotte, is program chairman. The large attendance is expect ed to overtax hotels and lodges at Lake Junaluska, overf'owing into Waynesville and nearby motels. The Rev. J. W. Fowler, Jr., sup erintendent of the Lake Junaluska Assembly, said that a Central Com mittee wil be in charge of all res ervations for delegates and visit ors to the conference. He empha sized that the committee will not start processing reservations until late fall, after the last annual con ferences of the church meet and elect delegates. Mr. Fowler said the conference dates were changed mainly to help owners of motels of the Waynes ville area by having the visitors come after the July 4 rush of business. U. S. railroads average $24,000 | in investment for every worker compared with $14,000 for manu facturing as a whole.
