Christmas Seal Sale Leaders Are Commended W. Lee McElrath of Canton, Mrs. Mary B. Brooks of Clyde, and Mrs. Roy Campbell of Waynesvllle were commended today for their leadership in the current state wide Christmas Seal Sale by Mrs. W. T. Bost, state chairman. They are members of a team of 110 persons in the state serving their communities in the capacity of Christmas Seal Chairman. The Christmas Seal Sale in Haywood County is conducted by the Cham pion Y's Men's Club of Canton, the Clyde Tuberculosis Committee, .and the Waynesvllle Tuberculosis Com mittee. (Mountaineer Photo). Bethel Wins Four Over Fines Creek And Clyde i The Bethel Blue Demons and Belles, Haywood County and Blue Ridge Conference champions last field, J. Sheffield, Blazer, Edwards, to a good start last week by sweep ing four games with Fines Creek and Clyde. The Bethel boys whipped Fines Creek 49-37, and Clyde 50-29. The girls won over Fines Creek 49-37 and Clyde 65-44. Against Clyde Friday night, the Blue Demons were ahead by only two points at the half, 18-16, but pulled ahead in the second half, led by Dean Reece, who netted 22 points. D. McCracken >vas tops for Clyde with 14. In the girls game. Smith sank 19 points, Lowe 14 and Henson 13 for the Bethel girls, but Betty Owenby of Clyde took scoring hon ors with 24 tallies. S. dentist has a net income of 111,000 a year. a Two Haywood Men Now In Army-Air Force 'Exercise Sage Brush' FORT POLK, La. ? Specialist Third Class Joseph O. Rathbone, 22, and PFC William J. Plemmons, 21, of Waynesville, are participat ing in the largest joint Army-Air Force maneuver since World War II, Exercise Sage Brush, in Louisiana. Some 110,000 Army troops are testing the latest concepts of atom ic, bacteriological, chemical and electronic warfare. The exercise will end Dec. 15. Rathbone and Plemmons are regularly stationed at Fort Bragg. N. C. Rathbone is a machine gun ner in Company G of the 82nd Air borne Division's 505th Airborne Infantry Regiment, and Plemmons is a d^patcher with the 50th Sig nal Battalion. Rathbone, son of Oliver J. Rath- ! bone; Route 2, entered the Army in January 1953. Plemmons, whose wife, Sandra ? Marlene, and parcpts, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Plemmons, live on Route 1, entered the Army in June 1953. Sonoma Baptist Church Elects Two Officers L. J. Tatham has been elected Sunday School superintendent and D. D. York chairman of the Boart of Deacons at the' new Sonoma Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Will Pharr Is supply pastor at the church. A new church building is now under construction on the site of the old Bethel Academy. Work has now advanced far enough to per mit use of the auditorium for wor ship services and Sunday School classes. When completed, the church edifice will provide facilities for a 1 church membership of 300 and a Sunday School enrollment of 250. Boosters Club To Install Officers At Ladies' Night The annual ladies' night, and installation of officers will mark the December meeting of Boosters Club on Thursday night, according to Paul Bryson, president. Lawrence Davis, president-elect will be installed during the pro gram, which will be a special event termed "The Magic Bar rell." Glen H.
