Several Haywood Students In WCC Program Friday The Western Carolina College Chorus, directed by Dr. Richard Renfro, will present its annual Christmas concert in Hoey Audi torium Friday morning, December 9, at ten o'clock. The program will open with a Bach cantata, "For Us A Child Is Born," sung by the entire chorus. Soloists for this number will be Richard Grace of the college music faculty; Arnold Penland of Arden; Carolyn Roberts of Canton, and Marie Roberts of 269 Hillside Street, Asheville. Other works to be performed are: "Thou Must Leave Thy Low ly Dwelling," Berlioz; "The Shep herd's C a r o 1," Billings; "The Lambs to the Lamb," Creston, sung by the women of the chorus; "Two Kings," by Closky, with words from a Christ Church manuscript about the 16th century. Instru mentalists for this selection will be Julia Ann Calhoun of Waynes ville and Gene Ellis of Kings Mountain, trumpets; and Neil Wil son and Tom Ginn, both of Sylva, trombones. The program continues with "Christmas Day. "a choral fantasy on old carols, by Hoist. Soloists will be Nancy Francis, Waynes ville; Leon Burgin of 80 Chestnut Street, Asheville; Barbara Shaver, Canton; John Marona, Etowah; and Ray Medford, Weaverville. "Sleep, Baby, Sleep," by Bell and Shaw, will feature Harriet Gib son of Waynesville on the snare drum. Concluding the program, the chorus will sing "Go Tell It On The Mountain", a spiritual, with Audrey Hays of Franklin as soloist. Hedy West of Murphy will play the piano accompaniment for the entire performance. ? Yuletide Concert Set At Bethel Monday Night On Monday night, Dec. 12, the Bethel bands and choruses will present the annual Christmas con cert at 7:30 in the new gymnasium. The senior band will begin the program with "The Nativity" and "Toys and Tinsel" overtures. T^he senior band will then be joined by the junior band to furnish the background music for the choruses, made up of 250 voices. Mrs. Dellma Phoenix will sing "O Holy Night," accompanied by Dr. Robert Matthews at the piano. Christy Bramlette will present an oral narration "Christopher the Christmas tree," accompanied by the band and chorus. The admission is 25 and 50 cents with the proceeds to go to the gym seat fund.
