[an Patrol J New Site The new Girl Scout Camp site will be open for patrol camping in 1996. Thia ii the announcement made laat week by the Piagah Girl Scout Council which aerves girl* in seven Western North Carolina counties, including Haywood. The 131-acre camp site is located in Transylvania County, 8 miles south of Brevard. Development of the property was started last year with funds from the Girl Scout Cookie Sale which paid for drill ing a well, building a pump house, and construction of a road. Addi tions will be made to the camp each year as funds are available through the sale of more cookies. According to the Camp Com mittee, the Council will hold two Patrol Encampments at the estab lished camp site for five day per iods in July. A session for white girls will be held July 17 through July 21 and the second encamp ment will be for negro girls, July 24 through July 28. Each neighborhood in the coun- ! cil may send one qualified patrol of eight girls (at least 10 years old.) Also, each neighborhood will furn ish at least one leader, tents, rooking gear and equipment furn ish and cook their own food. The Council will furnish a di rector, waterfront director, and a nurse or a qualified First Aid person. Girls participating in the camp must meet certain requirements 2 set by the Council. They must be at least 10 years of age, in excel lent health, and shall nave par ticipated in a patrol camping ex perience and be skilled In the use and practice of the patrol system. Final selection of the campers will ? be made by the Nelghborhod Se lections Committee on a basis of E skill In primitive camping and j basic camping skills; knowledge, to ??-J be taught or shared, of songs, dances, crafts, dramatics, cere- su monies, and story telling: and en dorsement of leaders and troop members. th Plans for this "First Roundtfp," Di as the 1936 camp is term, were lu announced along with a summary ? of Girl Scou(ing In the area dur ing 1953. This summary is contain ed on attractive blotters which are being distributed to sunporters of the Girl Scout program. The report shows an increase of registered girls from 1,400 in 1954 to 1.772 in 1955 and an increase in adult volunteers from 435 in 1954 to 556 in 1955. Total receipts rose from $17.914 96 to $20,236.26 dur ing the same period.
