The Younger r Set NewiOt WTHS | Barbara Griffith and Dorothy Grasty Didn't everyone enjoy the band concert last week? There was real ly a large crowd of people who really got their money's worth 100%. To start the evening ofT with a "bang" the whole band paraded right straight down the auditorium aisles, horns and all, with the most "outrageous" costumes ever seen. The whole auditorium was full of laughter. After that the band struck up with that "good ole music" everyone loves. There was every type of music from Jazz to bebop and everyone was either patting ma feet or clapping his hands. I don't think there was anyone who didn't enjoy the evening especially with those Lions Club members selling popcorn and giving those most un usual prizes. Three members of the band won $15 prizes for their cos tumes to be used while on their trip to Florida. These people were: Joan Prcvost. David Parker, and Charles Rogers. As everyone left the auditorium you could hear them saying "let's have some more con certs like that one." Tuesday in chapel we were hon ored to have the Brevard Band en tertain us. They gave a very good concert and I am sure everyone is looking forward to having them back next year. Those Seniors have really been excited this week and they have a good reason to be. Those good old cards and invitations have An ally arrived and all over the cam pus are seniors exchanging cards. Do you know what this means? Graduation is atmost here! Several weeks ago WTHS Com mercial Department had Miss Mary Ruwart from Navy Department visit our school to give civil service shorthand, typing and clerical test. This week the results of those tests were mailed to Mrs. Hugh Sloan, commercial instructor at WTHS. Those who passed the test were: Barbara Owenby, Sonja Snyder, Frances Williams, Nancy Grieg, Barbara Griffith, Louise Greer, Patsy Holder, Barbara Ketner, Marie Barrett and Joan Sheffield Several of these girls plan to go to Washington next year. Congratula tions to all theae girls! We do not want to overlook our baseball team this year because they have really been doing a fine job and have come up with many victories tor us. The squad in cludes: Tony Davis, Charles Rog ers, Bobby Green, Kenny Gibson. Bobby Trull, Jim Ruff. Paul Bur ress, Johnny Carswell, Stuart Scruggs. George Mitchell. Don Rsell, James Carver, Jack Holder, I Ralph Arrlngton, Jack Atkins. Carlton Burrell. Johnny Wright Bobby Hill. Sam Lane, David Beck and David Hannah, manager. This year's co-captains are Mike Byrd and Bobby Balance. Bruce Jaynes is the coach. These boys have done a fine Job thus far in the season and we are sure they will continue to carry on the good work. We are sorry that two members of the WTHS faculty have had to be absent. Miss Alma Jackson Wil liams, who did such a wonderful Job helping us with our senior play is sick and we would like to ex press our appreciation to her for hed help and let her know how sorry we are to hear of her illness Also Miss Margaret Tarrell has been absent due to the illness of her father and we want to also ex press to her our sympathy and hope that he gets well soon. Both of these teachers are missed a lot and we hope they will hurry hack to school. Every year about this time the hard work begins on the senior banquei.
