Bob Francis of Ratclirfe Cove, noted humorist, will be the princi pal speaker at a meeting July 2 of the Holly Springs CDP group in Macon County, winning community in the 19SS WNC district develop ment contest. Other Haywood County residents will accompany Mr. Francis to the meeting. "Mister Bob" also was the prin cipal speaker at a meeting of the Ball Creek Lions Club of Yancey County at the Manor Hotel in Ashe ville Monday. The program was ob served as Ladies Night and includ ed election of officers. Pigeon Valley Memorial Day Plans Announced Plans arc being completed for the Pigeon Valley Memorial Day on Sunday, July 1, The services will be held at the Bethel Metho dist Church and will feature an all-day singing with dinner on the grounds. ! All churches of the community will have their regular Sunday School services and at It o'clock the Memorial Day program, will be gin, with the Rev. Clyde Collins, former pastor, preaching. " The cemetery was started while Mr. Collins was pastor of the Bethel Methodist Church. Turner Cathey will preside dur ing the day. He is chairman of the committee on cemeUyy dk-eorar tion. Those attending the planning meeting included, besides Cathey. Dr. L. B. Hayes. Methodist pastor; Mrs. Edith Clark, Carson Clark, Van Wells, Mrs. Welch Singleton, Mrs. Maude Peek. Mrs. Hugh K. Terrell and the Rev. L. B. duBose. pastor of the Bethel Presbyterian Church. Last year the event was attend ed by several hundred people and an even larger attendance is an ticipated this year. John B. Collins Succeeds Turnley As FHA Manager John B. Collins of Asheville has succeeded T. T. Turnley, resigned, as supervisor of the Haywood County office of the Farmers Home Administration in the courthouse. Before coming here. Mr. Collins was with the Statesville office of the FHA. A 1955 graduate of N. C. State College, Mr. Collins is now resid ing with his wife in the Balsam Manor Apartments. Mr. Turnley has not yet an nounced his future plans. Ninevah Church Honors Fathers By MRS. AZE GRIFFIN Community Reporter The WMU of the Ninevah church presented a gift to the oldest and youngest father. Sunday for Fath er's Day. Jim Barnhardt was the youngest father and Harrison Cow an the oldest father. They received shirts as their gifts. The WMU met at the home of Mrs. Anna Gilford Tuesday night with Mrs. Hilda Hollinsworth in * charge of the devotions. The next WMU meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Aze Griffin on Saturday night at 7:30. July 7. Mrs. James Snyder, Mrs. Wins ton Ensley, from Newport News. Va., are visiting their parents here, Mr. and Mrs. John Smiley. Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Letning spent Sunday in Andrews visiting relatives. JOHN A. MOORE, manager of the personnel deportment at the Dayton Rubber Co., was elect ed secretary of the H'NC chap ter of the Society tor Advance ment of Management at a re cent meeting in Asheville. He has also served as a regional di rector of the society as a secre tary-treasurer of the WNC Safe ty Council. ? Six Lions To Attend Convention Six members of the Waynesville j Lions Club will leave here Sunday morning to attend the Lions In ternational convention at Miami, June 27-30. The group includes: Lawrence B. Leatherwood, district governor of 31-A, and his family; Dr. J. E. Fender, incoming president of the local club; and his family: Harry ! Whisenhunt. district secretary, and his family, and club delegates Joe Tate. Jr., John Boyd, and M. T. Bridges. Lions Charles L. Isley also will j be at Miami with the Waynesville | Township High School band, which | will represent Lions District 31-A at the convention. This year, North Carolina is seeking to break all past records for the size of its convention dele gation with 3.000 Tar Heel Lions on hand for the Sunshine City festivities. Major events of the convention are the parade Wednesday night. "North Carolina Night" in the Orange Bowl Thursday, and the inauguration of John L.
