Conference Gets First - Hand < View Of Lord's Acre Plan j 1 Members of the Town and j Country conference in session at i Lake Junaluska visited Elizabeth ! Chapel. Katcliffe Cove, Saturday I noon for lunch and a first-hand | account of a Lord's Acre Project < j. of the rural church. The group, led by Dr. James 1 Sells, director, heard members of the church, including Mrs. James Medford, president of the WSCS: Hugh Ratcliffe, owner of the land; | and two young people, Milas Kirk pat rick and Barbara Stone, ex ' plain various projects Which have meant nice returns for the church treasury. They were presented by the Rev. Grady Barringer, pastor of the church. One of the projects staged by the women was a "dollar talent" program in which each member 1 received one dollar to reinvest and turned all proceeds back to the [ church treasury; This netted enough to pay off the indebtedness on the church kitchen and dining room. w herC some 60 were served | a bountiful dinner on Saturday. The half acre of spring onions ! planted last year netted the church SI60 and they expect $100 for this year's planting. The conference went on record as approving a rural center in Brazil for the Rev. and Mrs. R. Parke Renshaw. who attended Sat urday's meeting and told of their experiences for five years in Brazil and the need of an agri cultural missionary. The Renshaws will return in January to begin work on the project. He is a na tive of Tennessee and she of Georgia They are home on their first furlough. The conference honored the Rev. Dumont Clarke of Asheville 1 at a program Saturday evening for his work in the Lord's Acre Proj ect. The Rev. Clark is a Presbyter ian minister and religious direct- . or of Farmers Federation. Since he became head of the j Lord's Acre program in 1930. he has helped spread the project j from a few churches in Western j C of C Asks Help In Selection Of | Beauty Contestant "BEAUTY Ql'EEN WANTED: Suggestions as to candidates ur gently wanted at the Waynesrilie Chamber of Commerce.
