An Art Workshop for element
ary teachers opened this afternoon
in the dining room of the First
Methodist Church and will con
tinue Tuesday and Wednesday af
ternoons from 2 p.m. until 6 p m.
The course is being conducted
by Henry C. Richmond, art con-1
sultant of the Art Crayon Com
pany, for teachers of grades one
through eight.
Today's class was devoted to a
summary of the principles of draw
ing. painting, color, and the tech
niques used with various school
arts material, after which teachers
choose their own art and craft
project*. The scope of the work
shop will Include making a mural
or two, models regarding some
social study, and work with temp
pera painting, oils, textile paint
ing and water base silk screen.

Mrs. Earl B. White of Winter
Have a, Ha., widely known lectur
er on flower arrangement, will be
an instructor at the N. C. State
Garden School, Course V, to be
held October 1, 2 and 3 ir. the Cen
tral Methodist Church of Canton.
The school is under the auspices
of the Canton Council of Garden
Clubs, and is co-sponsored by the
Division of College Extension of
\. C. State College and the Garden
Club of N. C.. Inc.
Mrs. White, a nationally accred
ted flower show judge since 1946,
has studied flower arranging with
outstanding authorities in New
York. Connecticut, New Jersey, and
California. T.he has conducted
schools. workshops, and demonstra
ions In many southwestern states.
Mrs. White has for many years i
been a consistent blue-ribbon and
tri-color exhibitor In state-wide
flower shows in Texas and Florida.
She grows flowers as well as ar
ranging them, and she recognizes
'heir endless possibilities in cre
ating beautiful flower pictures.
Mrs. A. W. Bottoms of the Can
'on Garden Club, also a nationally
accredited flower show judge, is
serving as general chairman of the
school.
Mrs. Bradley Morrah, president
of the National Council of Garden
Clubs, will attend the school.

Is Honored
At Luncheon
The Alpha Theta Chancer of
Beta Sigma Phi honored one of its
members, Miss Nancy Medfond, at
a farewell luncheon Saturday at
the Towne House.
Miss Medford, who taught last
year in the Bethel School, has ac
cepted a teaching position in the
Mathematics Department of Mars
Hill College.
The luncheon table was centered
with an arrangement of yellow \
flowers and Miss Medford w'as ]
presented a gift.

chapter and Mrs. T. Lenoir Gwyn,

The Haywood County Sub-Dis
trict of the Woman's Society of
Christian Service of the Methodist
Church will hold a seminar at Cen
t-al Methodist Church in Clyde,
Tuesday. September 25. beginning
at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Glenn Hipps, sub-district
chairman will preside, and Miss
Leura Jones of Franklin, district
president, will present the goals
for the coming year.

and program material.
