Wellco Co. Sets Pace For Bonus The cheerful jingle of some $33,000 will liven the air for approximately 400 residents of Hazeiwood and the surrounding area around Christmastime as Wellco Shoe Corporation plays Santa Claus with the second half its annual profit sharing plan. The first half was paid in August. Established in 19S2, the plan has already netted more than $300,000 for Wellco employees. This year's bonus is up 8 per cent over last year's. t The firm is said to be the only one in the section to have set up such a system. Wellco employees have no alibi for tardiness after they have been with the company for nine years-^-each one receives a watch. Ten-year staff members receive a $100 stock certificate in the company. Other benefits include paid vacations, seven paid holidays and birthday and Christmas gifts. Established in Hazeiwood in i94JMUie company sells footwear in states. The congregation hopes to occupy the structure early next year. The 503-member church is fi nancing the construction by sell ing bonds and by making con tributions to the building fund. Total gifts this year have been over $25,000. and, operating on a - "pay-as-you-go" basis, mem bers have high hopes of holding their first worship service in the new church on Founders' Day. the 40(h anniversary of the Hazel wood church. Legionnaires In Hazel wood Work For Community The Hazelwood Memorial Post 438, American Legion, organized in 1850 is now an active group of 50 members. The Post devotes all of its efforts to helping veterans and families of veterans wherever and whenever its services are needed. The Legionnaires raise most of their money for their service projects by sponsoring programs of hill-billy music. Last year they presented members of the Grand Ole Oprey from Nashville, Tenn. K. H. Ruff, who served as first commander ,is serving now in the same office. Other officers are F. E. Kuykendall, Jr.. vice commander: U. K. McConnell ad jutant; Carroll Whitner, service officer; T. R. Smith, finance of ficer; Buddy Green, child wel fare officer; and Houston Cald well, sergeant-at-arms.
