W S O S MEETS i The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the Methodist .church met in joint session Wed nesday evening at the dhurch with ,the President, "Mrs. E. T. Turnley presiding. 1 The devoitonals were led by Mrs. S. J. Powell in a most inter esting manner. Following the bus-mess the society presented Mrs. Olive P. Hinman, who has long been an outstanding worker In the WSOS, with a beautilul life membership gold pin, as a token of esteem to her for her loyal services. Also, an attractive miscellane ous shower was presented to Mrs. J. C. Surratt, who moves to Geor ' soon. Mrs. Surratt also has been active in the church and so cial affairs of this community, and her Sunday school class pre sented her with a handkerchief shower. Delicious sandwiches, cookies ri.d punch were served the socie ty SERVICES AT JOHNSON The Rev. M. O. Alexander, pas tor of the Beaufort Baptist church is conducting a series of revival services at Johnson Baptist church near Warsaw. The meeting began Sunday nigftit and will con tinue through the following Sun day. A cordial invitation is ex tended to all to attend these ser vices. SUNBEAM BAND MEETS The Sunbeam band of the Bap tist WMU held its September meeting Monday afternoon at the church with the leaders, Mrs. L. S. Whittle and Mrs. C. V. Gamer i;i charge of the program, "Fish el men." Following the watchword and business Mrs. -Garner read Luke 6:1-11 for the devotionals, and Sirs. Whittle told the story teiative to the Scriptures. Concluding the program the lit tlo folks enjoyed a Biblical fish iiy game and were served cook ies. PAUL DOUGLAS SHARPS HOME Paul Douglas Sharpe, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sharpe, who has been a patient at the Hickory emergency hospital for infantile paralysis, for a month, is gradually improving, and is now able to have company. WITH THE SICK Mr. Ira Exsell, Sr., night watch man for the Town of Warsaw, who la been ill for six weeks, under went an operation last week in the fioldsboro hospital, and is get ting along as wl as could be expected. She is residing in the home of her aunt, Ofrs. R. C. Pridgen, in Warsaw. Mrs. Lena Carlton, also of War saw, teaches in the Magnolia schools. Baines and Miss Sue Shine of Wilson, were ?eek-end visitors here. Joseph Surratt, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Surratt, left last week for Chatham, Va., where he will be a student at Hargrave Military institute. Miss Jewel Eatman, of Raleigh, was the weekend guest of her brother Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eat man, Jr., at their apartment in the home of Mrs. R. C Pridgen. Miss Martha Hawkins left Mon day' for her home in Richmond, Va.. after a visit with her grand mother, Mrs. H. D. Middleton. Mi Amelia Farrior has gone to Colambia, S. C, where she is again a member of the high school faculty. Lt. Steve Jones, son of Mrs. Tom Ashford, of Clinton, and for merly of Warsaw, was a visitor in town Monday. Lt. Jones re ceived his wings and commission in the air corps in Texas on Sep tember 8. He goes to Indiana, where he will be an instructor. Miss Mable Lee Topel, of Wil mington, is spending the winter with her aunt, Mrs. J. A. Rackley and Mr. Rackley, while she is at tending Warsaw high school. Miss Frances Stephens left on Wednesday for Danville, Va., to attend Averitt college. :.Miss Virginia Parker has re turned to Norfolk, Va., to con tinue her work with the C. P. telephone company of . Lenoir Williams and Pritchard Adams were win ners and were given boxes of candy. Mary Ann Oates and Jane Falson were the winners in a contest The hostesses served soft drinks, sandwiches and cakes to the guests. MRS FAISON ENTERTAINS v Mrs. J. E. Faison entertained her sewing club Wednesday after noon. At the conclusion- of the afternoon a salad course with ic ed tea was served to the guests. EPISCOPAL AUXILIARY MEETS The Episcopal auxiliary . met with 'Mrs. H. T. Ray. Saturday afternoon. The president, Mrs. D. L. McCulIen, was in the chair. Mrs. Ray had the study from the book "Proving Prayer.", At the conclusion of the meeting the hostess served sherbert, cookies and punch. Mrs. Hume of Leesburg, Va spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cates. She ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Cates to Chimney Rock. Bobby Oakes of Welden, wbo has been visiting his cousin, Lu ther Taylor, has returned home. Mrs. L. ' E. Taylor and Luther Taylor were visitors in Durham last week. Dr. L. D. McPhail of Charlotte, and Joe McPhail of Fayetteville, were guests of their sister, Mrs. H. B. Hatcher recently. Mies Louise Hatcher left for Greensboro Wednesday. She Is a teacher in the Greensboro school. George Sugg is visiting his sis ter, Mrs. Bertha McCulIen. J. B. Stroud 3rd left Wednes day for Fishborne military school Lt and Mrs. William K.
