IJAIKVIUE, SNANSVILLE Society and Sewing Club Meets Hie Sewing Club met last week with Mm. J. M. Brock. The mem bers did Red Cross sewing, mak ing bootees for baby layettes. Mrs. Ralph Carlton -Hostess to Card Club Mrs. Ralph Carlton was hos tess to the Thursday ' afternoon Card Club, Mrs. L. F. Weeks, Mrs. N. B. Boney and Mrs. HD Will, lams were additional guests. Af ter several progressions of bridge, it was found that Mrs. Perry, Dob son was high scorer for club mem bers and Mrs. N. B. Boney for the visitors. The hostess served a deli cious chicken salad plate. CIRCLES MEET CIBCLE No. 1 met on Monday afternoon in the home of Mrs. J. A. Gavin, with the Circle Chair man, Mrs. G. V. Goodnig in charge of the meeting. Mrs. N. B. Boney gave the Bible Study. The hos , tess served iced tea. salted nuts and cookies. It was decided at this meeting to meet in the Manse at 5:00 rather than 4:00 p. m. for the iummer months. CIRCLE No. 2 of the Grove Presbyterian Church met on Mon day evening with Miss Hilda Clontz. The meeting was opened with devotional by Mrs. J. R. Grady. After the business was discussed, the program was turned over to Miss Martha Pickett, who gave a very interesting talk on Parables. The hostess served iced drinks and cookies. Mrs. F. W. McGowen was hos tess to The Ella Cooper Circle of the Baptist Church on Monday evening. The Chairman, Mrs. H. M. West presided. A program on "The Youth of Today" was given by Mrs. Hubert Phillips. The hos tess, assisted by Mrs. J. O. Stokes, served coca colas, assorted sand wiches and cookies. Birthday Party Mary Beth Southerland cele brated her 11th birthday June 12. She gave a party to about 18 guests, two of whom were Jimmy Bryant of Rose Hill and Bobby Carr of Wallace. Summer flowers were used In the reception room and a "color scheme of white was carried out , in the dining room. Miss Sallie Hill presided at the punch bowl. The table was cen tered with a three tiered wedding cake with white ribbon streamers and was flanked at each end , with roses and ivy and lighted tapers. Beef Production Payments Announced Announcement of hte Beef Pro duction Payment Program by the WFA, effective May 19, 1945, has been received by Lewis W. Out law, Chairman of Duplin A . -In explaining, the prcgranJe pointed out that the payment rate j will . be 50 cents per , hundred weight for good and choice cattle owned and fed by the applicant at least 30 days prior to selling. Cattle are required to weigh 800 pounds , (live weight) or more, and -to be sold to a licensed slaughterer. Payment will prob ably be made-similar 'to payment earned under the Dairy Product ion Payment Program and cattle- men ue urged to keep accurate records of sales. Cattlemen will be furnished complete Information relative to details of the program as soon as it is received by the Duplin Coun ty AAA Committee.
