Warsaw Presbyterian Church Warsaw, North Carolina Philiathea Class Meeting Held. The Philathea Class of the Bap tist Sunday School met Thursday - night in the home of Mrs. Macon HolHngsworth with Mrs. Hubert Worthlngton as hostess and 28 present. Miss Mary Hester Powell, Class President, was in the chair and chose for her topic for the month 'Rock of Ages". To emphasize this the room was darkened and a small covered light reflected on a White cross. Miss Eva Carter and Mrs. Emmett Roark, accompanied at the piano by Miss Fannie Wil son, sang the first verse of Rock of Ages, after which Mrs. L. S. Whittle read an appropriate Psalm and Miss Annie Kate Powell gave a Vivid description of the Rock of Ages sanctuary deep in the heart of Carlsbad Caverns, which is over 700 feet in the earth of New Mexico. Following business, the class chose for their "Service Man of the Month" Chief Petty Officer J. T. Greene, USN, who has been with the Fleet at Pearl Harbor for the past eight months. The hostess served a tempting course of homemade ice cream and cookies. Sollie E. Johnstone Bible Class Meets The Sallie E. Johnstone Bible Class of the Methodist Sunday School: met Wednesday in the home of Mrs. J. J. West with her daughter, Mrs. Sterling Marriner, int hostess and 14 present. Mrs. C. B. Best, Vice President, presided in the absence of the , President, Mrs. Sam Powell. She also read the devotionals. Mrs. H. R. Hipp taught the Bible Study and following the routine business the hostesses served a frozen salad course with pimento sandwiches. Honored On Birthday One of the lovliest of children's parties recently was that of Tues- day afternoon . when Mrs. L. A. Brown entertained a dozen chil dren honoring her son "Red" on his 8th birthday. Numerous games and contests were enjoyed and later the chil dren were gathered around a camp fire where they roasted weiners after which the attractive birth day cake wibs served. Miss Alice Summerlin has had the misfortune to fall recently and break several ribs, which are pro ving quite painful. Mrs. O. H. Best was a patient for several days at the James Walker Hospital where she under went treatment. She is getting along fine now. V PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Misses Vera and Mildred Hamil ton of Magnolia, teachers m the Warsaw Grammar School, have an apartment in the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Pickett. John Draughon visited Mr. Will Draughon Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Bridgers, Mrs. S. E. Hines and Mrs. J. E. Williams returned Thursday from Wrightsville Beach. Mrs. Milton West and son, Lee, and Mrs. Hop Smith and son, Dwight, are spending the week at Carolina Beach. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Rackley had as guest last week his aunt of Richmond, Va. Mr. and Mrs. A. Misses Bessie and Nealie Miller of Kinston were here Tuesday for the funeral of the late R. E. Gar ner. Mrs. Elizabeth Porter and son were recent guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Siler in Jack sonville. Mrs. Siler is improving from a recent illness. Jack Middleton was the week end guest of Billy Kornegay, stu dent at the University at Chapel Hill. Billy, who has been a summer school student returned with him to spend four days with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Korne gay. Henry S. Kornegay of Winston Salem is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Kornegay. He ia with the Federal Loan and Banfc ing with headquarters in Winston Salem. Misses Isolla Murray and Alice Summerlin were guests last week of Miss Murray's sister, Mrs. Iona Thornton near Faison. Gordon Spell left Sunday for his home in Dunn after visiting his sister Mrs. Frank Hobbs. He was recently discharged from the Navy after serving over five years. Mrs. Ed Coob returned last week from Philadelphia where she visi ted her husband, Ed Cobb SH 3c, USN. Wliile there she also visited friends in Baltimore and Wash ington. . !afj Nick Kalmar and Edmund Turn ley left Thursday for Chapel Hill where they enrolled at the Univer sity of Carolina. Miss Anne.Chasen of Wilming ton was the guest last week of her aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Porter. Miss Sarah Humphrey had as her Sunday guests.Miss Sadie and Lewis Outlaw of Seven Springs. They were students at Campbell College last year. Misses Margery Thomas and Re becca Best have returned from Winston-Salem, where they were guests of two of Miss Best's class mates at Wake Forest.
