" V JCENANSV1LLE, NORTH CAROLINA THE DUPLIN TIMES FRIDAY. NOm',:ia Ifcth., 1945 Warsaw Soldier Writes From China Says Yanks WeiitTo Disarm Japs But Japs Got Reports and Checked Out; P. F. C. Paul Hardison Says He Hopes To Be Home By Spring; Says China Unlike Pacific Islands. ' Tsingtao, China Hello Duplin Folks :- I have arrived In North China at last, the northern seaport town of Tsingtao. Its population Is over 1,000,000. The reason we, the- 22nd regt, came here was to disarm the Japs, but I think they got the word and moved out. Anyway, there aren't any around here at present. Everything is nice and smooth so far. Tsingtao is in the Shantung Province of China. Anybody that has control of it has control of the Yellow Sea. This city Is Ger man built; In fact the Germans were here for quite some time. It has some nice buildings. We have the University for our barracks. We get 2,000 Chinese dollars for one American dollar; so you see we get around quite a bit for one dollar. They ride- us around on Rickshaws, somewhat like a small buggy. They trot or run slow while you are riding. I don't see how they can run so far without The averaee "chink" works hard all day for ten or fifteen cents. I went to the race track here the other day. There are some Germans and white Russians here. China isn't like any of the Pacific Islands I was on. Guam was about the best one. Well, I am about half way round the world from Warsaw now. I had much rather be there than here. I think I'll be home in the early Spring, although I don't know as yet. So keep your chin up. Paul. P.F.C. P. G. Hardison, Co. Actually, the chimney is an integral part of your heating system, the same a. the exhaust 1. a vital part of your auto engine. The chimney is not only the ex haust flue of your furnace, but it also is tied in to the combustion circuit by being the valve that permits new air to be drawn into the furnace so that the. coal will burn. If the valve closes be cause of becoming etf&ged up with soot or masonry d'-brls then it shuts off the fresh air that is es sential to combustion. A poor fire of low heat and lots'' of amoke i the result, with the gas backfiring, and everything actfng wrong. Cleaning out a chimney, and re Dairinsr it if necessary, is not an easy job, and certainly not one for It is Dart of the Di fegatonal cleaninf service which an amateur. some heating companies are set up tn c-iva. and the Job should be turned over to such an expert. No matter how new or how fine your furnace, it is worthless to you if the chimney interfere, with its operation.
