Bible Class Meets
The Sallie E. Johnstone Bible
Class met Wednesday night In the
homcof the President, Mrs. Sam
J. Powell. Due to inclement weath
er there were not so many present
Mrs. Powell presided and Mrs.
H. R. Hipp tatight the Bible Study.
Mrs. M A. Smith led an interest
ing contest during the social hour
with Mrs.' Hipp as winner and the
hostess served ginger bread, topped
with whipped cream, and coffee.

The James Kenans Chapter of
the United Daughters of the Con
federacy held their first meeting
of the new year Thursday after
noon at 3:30 in the home of the
President, Mrs. Henry Stevens, Jr.,
with Mesdames B. H. Best and H.
L. Stevens, J5r., as hostesses, with
23 present .
Mrs. Stevens called the meeting
to order with the singing of "Caro
lina" followed by the ritiual led by
the Chaplain, Mrs. C. A. Womack
and flag salutes, ,

dent read an interesting historical
paper commemorating the . Joint
birthdays of "Lee, . Jackson, and
Maurey," emphasising the christian
lives of each.. . ' v
During the social hour the host

coffee to the members and guests,

so does a clean broom. Douse it in
medium-warm suds, rinse welL and
hang it up by the handle to dry.
Add n few drops of ammonia to4tie
suds for a very ditlir broom: "When
not in use, hang the broom so that
the straw floes not rest directly on
the floor.
To preserve the garbage pail,
treat it to a thorough washing
with soapsuds once a week followed
by a hot water rinse and thorough
sunning.
