Circle No. 1 met Tuesday with Mrs. C W. Surratt at her home with 10 present and Mrs. S. J. '. Powell presiding, She was assisted by Mrs. A. M. Williams who gave the devotional. She served a tempt ing fruit salad with tea. - : ,' Circle No. 2 met Thursday night . with Mrs. Hopton Smith with five present and Mrs. Q. J. Sutton pre siding. She also led the devotional. The hostess served ice cream with ' ginger ale and pound cake. Circle No. 3 was entertained on Wednesday In the home of Miss Nellie Corbett with 9 members and 2 visitors present. Mrs. M. A. Smith . presided and Mrs. G. P. Pridgen, , assisted by Miss Martha Lee Oakes, led the devotional. Mrs. Smith i taught the program lesson after Which she and Mrs. Frank Hobbs ' conducted a Bible quiz at which -,Mrs. Milton West was declared the &. winner. The hostess served pecan '"; rolls, sandwiches, candy and lemon 1' ade. Mrs. Kitchin Is Hostess To Club . ,- Mrs. Jimmy Kitchin was hostess ..Thursday afternoon to her bridge : club and several additional guests. In the living room, the tables were placed among a profusion of sum mer flowers. At the conclusion Mrs. Edwin Sheffield received a novelty "kewple" razor for high score and : the hostess served a sweet course Of "English Trifle". m3. Brown led the de votional and the Rosa Hocutt Pow ell Circle had charge of the pro gram with Miss Betty Loftin pre senting an interesting program on "China Today". She was ably as sisted by Mrs. Q. JS. Best, Mrs. V. A. Standi and Mrs. D.T. Chambers. During the business session it was decided that the WMU have a fel lowship hour immediately following the sermon Sunday night, July 27, at which time Dr. Bela Udvarnoki, President of the Baptist Theologi cal Seminary at Budapest, Hungary will be the guest speaker. Dr. Ud varnoki was married to the former Ruby Daniel, of Oxford, formerly a missionary to Hungary and while iu North Carolina - Will tour the Eastern Association.' Sunbeam Meeting The Sunbeams of the Baptist WMU met Monday afternoon at the church with 20 little tots present and Mrs. Gfcorge Penney in charge of the program on China. Mrs. L. S. Whittle assisted in leading the children .In the - watchword, rally cry and singing of songs. Sue Whit tle was htess and served lime popcicles. YWA Meeting - The Baptist YWA met Tuesday afternoon in the home of Miss Jan ice Draughon with 8 present and Miss Frances Stephens .presiding. Miss Rebecca Best read the devo tional and the regular business pro gram followed. Miss Draughon ser ved delicious chocolate cake with ice cream. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Newton, of Fountain, announce the birth of a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, on Thurs day, July 3, 1947. Mrs. Newton is the former Miss Dorothy Powell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Alvas Powell, Sr., of Warsaw, Hold Reunion Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Herring en tertained at a family reunion on July 13 at their home, honoring their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Herring of San Di ego. Calif., who are spending some time here. Out of town guests in cluded the honorees, and Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Herring and children of Carolina Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Wil bert Herring and daughter of Fai- son, Mrs. D. U. Hopkins of Lexing ton, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Bartlett of Fayetteville, and Mr. and. Register of Rose Hill celebrated Mr. Regis ter s 88th birthday recently with a family reunion in the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. C. Boone, in War saw, with 160 members of the fam ily in attendance.
