1 The passing of Columbia, the 6
foot cottonmouth moccasin snake,
was reported by Frank B. Meaeham,
who attributed death to old age
and loss of appetite. " '
Columbia was 18 years old. The
museum obtained him from the
southeastern part of the State on
May 10, 1934. He represented one
of the two poislnous species of moc
casins found In North Carolina,
the other being the Irighland moo

med from a somewhat monotonous
diet, consisting mostly of ran; but

snakes.
Columbia was the only cotton-
mouth moccasin in the museum.
