'"" f r- Uc:d To Plant I !:re Collon Duplin County farmers were urged this week by George T. Ash ford, Red Springs, President of the Carollnaa Ginners Association, to begin planning now to plant to cotton some of the 5,200 acres that will be idle next year in Duplin County by reduced flue-cured to bacco acreage. With the expected 20 blanket reduction In flue-cured allotments in 1948, Duplin's tobacco allotment will be reduced from 20,303 acres to approximately 21,042 acres. Ash ford said. Tobacco farmers, he ad ded, would be wise to investigate the possibility of taking up a goed ; portion of the reduced acreage with cotton. Cotton is second only to tobacco , as a cash crop in North Carolina, Ashford pointed out. ' "Inventories of cotton manufac turers are more depleted than In many years," he said, "and cotton - can be planted without a complete change in farming operations, we are proud of the improved living standard of our farm people, and we cannot afford to stand by and face a 20 reduction in cash in come, without making some effort oooooooooooo WHEN YOU NEED 1 SERVICES OF AN AUCTIONEER CALL BILL HIDES, JR.
