Miss Berta Melza Bostic, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Love
Bostic, of Magnolia, became the
bride of Mr. Kenneth Clark Peter
son, son of Mrs. J. C. Peterson and
the late Mr. Peterson, of Orion,
Illinois, in a candlelight ceremony
at 3 p. m. November 1 in the Mag
nolia Baptist Church at Magnolia,
N. C.
The liev. Clemmons Peterson, J
brother of the groom, assisted by
Rev. J. B. Sessoms, pastor of the
bride, performed the double ring
ceremony.
Mrs. C. E. Latham of Rose Hill,
pianist, and Miss Iris Herring of
Wallace, vocalist, gave the program
of nuptial music.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a gown of white
1; ce and illusion, fashioned with a
li ng fitted bodice with self-covered
buttons down the back. The full
skirt swept into a circular chapel
length train. The white lace bodice
had a deep shoulder yoke of illu
sion edged in pleated illusion and
long fitted sleeves which came to a
point over the hands. The finger
tip veil of illusion fell from a tiara
of orange blossoms. Her only jewel
ry was a single strands of pearls, a
gilt ot tne groom, bhe carried a
prayer book centered with a white
orchid.
The bride's only attendants were
her sister-in-law, Mrs. Marlow Bos
tic of Rose Hill, who served as ma
tron of honor, and Miss Hilda Brin
son of Kenansville, who was brides
maid. Mrs. Marlow Bostic wore a
blue taffeta dress and carried a
bouquet of nosegays. Miss Brinson
wore a peach taffeta dress and also
carried a bouquet of nosegays.
Adolph Bostic of Loulsburg, bro
ther of the bride, served as Mr.
Peterson's best man. Ushers were
Marlow Bostic of Rose Hill and
Milton Bostic of Greenville, bro
thers of the bride.
Mrs. Warren Bostic, mother of
the bride, was dressed in black
with black accessories and wore a
corsage of red roses.
Mrs. J. C. Peterson, mother of the
groom, was also dressed in black
with black accessories and wore a
corsage of red roses.
Following the wedding, a recept
ion for the family and out-of-town
guests was held at the home of the
bride.
Out-of-town guests attending the
wedding were Rev. and Mrs. Clem
mons Peterson of Agema, Wis., Mrs.
J. C. Peterson of Orion, 111., and
Miss Agnes Lawson of Orion, Hi;
Mrs. Mack Griffith, Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Allen, and Mrs. Naomi Long,
of Wilmington, N. C.
Following the reception, the
bride and groom left for a trip to
Williamsburg, Va., and Niagara
Falls. For traveling she wore a
green gaberdine suit with which
she wore an orchid corsage.
After the wedding trip, Mr. and
Mrs. Peterson plan to make their
home in Fairfax, Va.
Circle Meets
The Good Samaritan Circle of
the WMU met Monday afternoon
in the home of Mrs. J. L. Ketchsidc
with Mrs. Conrad Boone presiding
Mrs. G. S. Best was assisted by sev
eral ladies in presenting an inter
esting program on Africa, using
for the Bible study Isaiah 59:20-60
Following the business the hostess
assisted by her daughter, Mrs. Os
car Joyner, served mixed fruits.
UDC Meets
The James Kenan Chapter UDC
was entertained Thursday after
noon in the home of Mrs. L. B.
Huie, assisted by Mesdames J. W.
Farrior and J. W. Middleton with
14 present
Mrs. H. L. Stevens, Jr., opened
the meeting with song followed by
ritual and flag salutes led by Chap
lain, Mrs. C. A. Womack. Minutes
were read and approved, 'followed
by various reports. Mrs. Stevens
reminded members not to forget
to bring their gifts for the old la
dies Christmas gift to the December
meeting.

nizations, in which she sketched

On Saturday afternoon, Novem
ber IS, in a quiet and simple cere
mony at her home, Miss Barbara
Hitchcock, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. William Henry Hitchcock, of
Warsaw, was married to Mr. Curtis
William Salyer, son of R. E. Salyer
and the late Mrs. Salyer, of Lynch,
Ky with the Rev. Eugene H. Clarke
pastor of the Warsaw Presbyterian
Church officiating and using the
double ring ceremony.
Bridal arrangements of white
gladioli and fern were placed on
the mantel and on either side of
the fireplace were floor standards
of burning tapers and palms.
Miss Harriett Hitchcock, sister
of the bride, lighted the candles
and Mrs. J. E. Williams presented
a program of nuptial music prior to
and during the ceremony. Her sel
ections included "Echoes of Spring"
by Friml; "Slumber Song" by Schu
mann; and "Melody in D. Flat" by

of General R. F. Hoke's "Farewell
Address" to his men at the close
of the War Between The States.
General Hoke was the grandfather
of Mrs. West and the address was
read by Mrs. Sallie Gibbs Pridgen
Anderson, of Yancyville, a new
