A Democratic Journal, devoted to the material, educational. i and agricultural Interests of DnpUn County. jarCk Carolina vt American fun Asskuiim rfney Tps fo Farmem M Proper Chicken Houses Essential for Production ' Chicken art susceptible to changes in weather conditions, and unless properly housed during winter months egg pro ductlon will drop drastically. Adequate, weatherproof laying houses art essential for profitable production. Poultry specialists of state agriculture colleges, in collabo ration with farm building au-e- thoritles and the U. S. Depart ment of Agriculture, recently made the following recommenda tions: Insulation la generally recom mended for laying houses, be aause It helps maintain more nearly uniform interior tempera tures regardless of the season. In almost all laying houses the roofs or ceiling should be well insu lated to counteract the heat ab sorbed by the roof in hot weather, and to reduce heat losses during cold weather.1 1 The first essential of any farm building, even before insulation la considered, is a sound, weather tght roof which will give year round protection against chang ing weather conditions. If the lay ing hens are subjected to chilling draughts or dampness through leaking roofs, egg production drops off and fatal Alness in- farm building authorities rec ommend that the roofs of laying houses be carefully inspected ana If weaknesses are found, suggest re-roofing rather than patching before making additional expendi- f or. insulating material. 1 roof of sturdy fire, and wind-re sistant asphalt shingles usually can be placed over the old roof. The additional covering of as phalt shingles will provide added roof insulation. Agriculture engineers also rec ommend that portable chicken houses be repaired and rebuilt during the winter months to have them ready for spring when the young chicks arrive. Here again, adequate roof covering is essen tial On small, portable range houses mineral surfaced, or smooth surfaced asphalt roll roofing, prop erly applied, will provide snug protection for the baby chicks. Winterizing Tractors I The farm tractor is a complex niece of machinery and requires checking at many points when getting it ready for winter. The usual procedure is to change the motor oil and the transmission lubricant and get the cooling sys tem prepared for winter. But proper winterizing also requires checking the thermostats, air cleaner, magneto, spark plugs, sediment bowls, the tires and the battery. of Deeds of Duplin County, North Carolina, default having been made in the indebtedness thereby secured and aaid Deed of Trust be ing by the terms thereof subject to foreclosure, and the bolder of the notes thereby secured having called on the undersigned Trustee to foreclose, the undersigned Trus tee will offer for sale at public auction, to the highest bidder for cash at the- Courthouse Door In Kenansville.
