Elections, has announced that
the voting place for the War
saw Precinct will be at the
graded school building. Due
to the construction of a new
City Hall, it was necessary to
move the location temporarily.
Dixie Kornegay Wed To Mr. Carlton
'
Miss Dixie Elizabeth Kornegay,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Winfield
S. Kornegay of Bowden, became the
bride of William Bruce Carlton, son
of Mrs. Bruce Carlton and the late
Mr. Carlton of Warsaw, in a can
dlelight ceremony at 7 o'clock on
Friday evening, .May 21, in the
Faison Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. J. Murphy Smith was
the officiating minister, and the
wedding music was presented by
the bridesgroom's sister, Miss Mary
Carlton of Durham and Warsaw,
and James Orengia of Warsaw, so
loist. The bride, given in marriage by
her brother. Loftin Kornegay, wore
a gown of white faille fashioned
with a square marquisette yoke
edged with rose point lace, fitted
bodice buttoned down the back
with self-covered buttons, long
sleeves ending in points at the
wrists and a full skirt which form
ed a long train. Her veil of illusion
fell from a small tiara of orange
blossoms She carried a bouquet
of white roses, stephanotis, center
ed with a white orchid, edged with
White tulle and. showered with
white satin ribbons.
Mrs. Charles J. Sheffield of War
saw, matron of honor, wore a dress
of heavenly blue taffeta with full
bouffant skirt gathered onto a fit
ted bodice. Her headdress was of
yellow net and she wore matching
mitts. She carried a bouquet of
mixed flowers in pastel shades tied
with yellow taffeta ribbon.
Marilyn Price, niece of the bride
groom, was flower girl. She wore
a dress of yellow organdy and car
ried a small colonial nosegay, and
wore a matching halo of flowers in
her hair.
Walter Price, brother-in-law of
the bridegroom, was best man. R.
Scott Kornegay of Salina, Kansas,
brother of the bride, and Felton
Til ley of Raleigh were ushers.
Mrs. Kornegay, mother of the
bride, wore a grey crepe dress and
a purple orchid. The bridegroom's
mother wore a dress of blue crepe
and a white orchid corsage.
Immediately following the wed
ding the couple left for unannoun
ced points.

Mr. and Mrs. Cortez Blackmore
celebrated their Golden Wedding
Anniversary by having a family
dinner Saturday, May 22, at their
home in Warsaw. Covers were lad
for eighteen and included Mrs. Ira
W. Brown, Hubert and Vinson
Brown of Greenville, S. C, Mr.
and Mrs. W. O. Harrell and child
ren of Chapel Hill, Mrs. Aletha

C. Blackmore and children of Bur-

sented their grandparents with gold
watches, as gifts from the children.
On Sunday afternoon Mr. and
Mrs. Blackmore held open house
from four until six o'clock. Little
Misses Annette Blackmore, Betty
Harrell and Ann Harrell were on
the lawn and directed the guests
to the east porch, where Mr. and
Mrs. Robert M. Herring, Sr., greet
ed them and invited them into the
living loom, where Mr. and Mrs.
Blackmore received. The living
room was decorated with a mantel
arrangement of yellow carnations
and lavender delphinium. Mr. and
Mrs. V. C. Blackmore directed the
guests to the dining room. Mrs.
Alethea Fant and Miss Nora Black
more received in the dining room.
The buffet was decorated with a
large crystal basket of yellow chrys
anthmums, lavender and yellow as
ters and purple delphinium, flank
ed by tall yellow candles, while
the serving table was covered with
an ecru filet lace cloth in grape
design, made by the honoree, Mrs.
Blackmore. The decorations were
an arrangement of pastel sweetpeas
and fern, flanked by tall gold can
dles in crystal holders. Miss Viola
Westbrook, of B. F. Grady, dipped
punch from an antique irredescent
glass bowl in grape design. Mrs.
Milford Quinn and Miss Emma
Murray served assorted cookies and
salted nuts.

joyed an Interesting study course
Friday evening taught by Mrs. Gil
mer Beck in the Legion Home.
The lounge was decorated with
summer flowers, using the colors
of each organization. About 40 boys
and girls found their places Dy
means of attractive place cards. Af
ter the study course they enjoyed
a supper of chicken salad with ac
cessories and tea. Following sup
per games were enjoyed. Those
assisting in serving were Mesdaraes

Mesdames Thcl Snipes and Stacy
Britt, RA leaders.
Mrs. Snyder Hostess
To Home Ec. Girls
The 3rd year Home Ec girls were
entertained by their teacher, Mrs.
Kathleen Snyder Friday evening,
preceding the graduation exercises
in the Home Ec. rooms. Lovely
decorations were used and a small
reception was enjoyed. Each of
the senior girls were presented a
beautiful handkerchief from the
hostess.

Mrs. Paul Berry complimenting
Mrs. Elbert L. Matthis, recent bride
and formerly Miss Jean Patterson
of Roseboro.
The Berry home was attractively
decorated with massive arrange
ments of magnolias in the hall and
pastel larkspur in the living and
dining rooms where seven tables
were in play.
For scoring high Mrs. Joyce C.
Burton received hose, and Mrs. Joe
Best, of Clinton, received a carton
of chewing gum for out-of-town
high. Mrs. Maurice Jordon, for low
score, received mints' and the hon
oree was remembered with a sil
ver bon bon dish, and Mrs. C. D.
Gregory, of Belcross, houseguest of
Mrs. Berry, received playing cards.
During play coca colas and toast
ed nuts were served and at the
conclusion a tempting fruit salad
course with pecan rolls, sandwiches
and tea.

Revival services will begin - at
the Carlton Methodist Church on
Sunday, May 30 at 3:45 p.m. and

Mrs. Murphy, Dies
In Warsaw
Mrs. Lillian Murry Murphy, 78,
wife of T. O. Murphy of the Char
ity Crossroads section died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. J. A.
Rackley in Warsaw Monday after
noon after a short illness. Funeral
services were held from the Bethel
Methodist Church Wednesday af
ternoon at 3 o'clock by her pastor,
the Rev. Dixon Wood, assisted by
the Rev. A. M. Williams, pastor of
the Warsaw Methodist Churc.hs.The
body lay in state in Bethel church
for one hour prior to the funeral.
Interment was in the Charity Cross
cemetery. In addition to her hus
band she is survived by four dau
ghters, Mrs. H. A. Topel of Wil
mington, Mrs. S. D. Kelly of Caro
lina Beach. Mrs. B. M. Williams of
Dover and Mrs. Rackley; three sons,
D. M. Murphy of Seven Springs, T.
T. Murphy of Wilmington and J. H.
Murphy of the home.

of 1948 enjoyed a week of commen
cement and parties last week be
ginning with a cake cutting on
Tuesday evening following the re
hearsal of Class night exercises.
The Seniors entertained the Jun
iors, mascots and sponsors in the
Home Ec. Department. Miss Estelle
Stancil and Billy Cotton, bride and
groom in the Class night skit, cut
the three tiered cake and Miss Bar
bara Thompson served individual
bridal ices and nuts.

Harmon entertained with a drug
store party and in. the evening fol
lowing the entertaining Class night
exercises, which was in the form
