near Piek Hill was the scene of a
double marriage ceremony last
Wednesday - morning when Miss
Bernlce Tyndall became the bride
of Mr. Jtmle Powell and Miss Llna
Belle-Davis was united with Mr.
Stephen Bay Pate. Rev. N. P. Egf
star was the officiating minister.
Only the necessary witnesses were
present including the minister's
wife.
t. The couples are residents of the
B. F. Grady section and the brides
were graduated from that school
last month. They will reside In the
8tott's Store section of the county.
Entertains Club
Mrs. Frank Wiley was hostess to

Pink Hill Tuesday evening. Three
tables were set for play in the liv
ing room which was decorated with
an arrangement of summer flowers.
Mrs. C. C. Jones was the recipi
ent of the high score prize ior club
meoters and Mrs. Levi Everett
won consolation prize. Miss Mollie
Cartright received visitors high
and Mrs. Jasper Tyndall won bingo
: prize. Coca colas and mints were
served during play followed by ice
cream and cake after the games.
Mrs. D. W. Ruff in won consolation.
Mrs. Levi Everett was the recipient
of visitors high score and Mrs. T.
A. Turner won In bingo. Refresh
ments consisted of coca cola.; dur
ing play and iee cream and cake at
the conclusion.
Booklovers Meet
Mrs. Jack Perkins was hostess to
the Booklovers Club of LaGrnnfio
at her home here Tuesday night.
Mrs. Lindsley Stallings presided.
Mrs. P.. G. Creech read thcminutes
and Mrs. Dick Hardy sketched the
livfts of outstanding men of N. C.
Mrs. Edwin Wooten gave the book
report and current events were
given by different members of the
club. Atter an exchange of books
the members enjoyed refreshments.

Bible School
Around 70 children were en
rolled in a Bible School held at
Pleasant View Presbyterian church
this week. Local people were in
charge, assisted by the pastor, Rev.
N. P .Farrior.
At the Harper-Southerland
church about 40 were enrolled in a
similar school. In charge there was
Miss Molie Anne Boney of Wallace
who is President of the Youth Fel
lowship organization of Wilmington
Presbytery. She was assisted by
loeal people and Rev. Farrior. Pic
nic sappers climaxed the week's
activities.

Mrs. Jack Perkins entertained at
a delightful bridge luncheon at her
home here Thursday. The occasion
was to honor teachers with whom
she taught at LaGrange this past
winter. After a 3 course luncheon
bridge was played. Scoring highest
was Mrs. Millard Sutton and Mrs.
Kermit Thompson won the travel
ing prize. Iced drinks were served
during play.

665 Lose Driver s
License In May
During May, 665 persons lost
their driving licenses in North
Carolina because of drunken dri
ving, the Motor Vehicle Deuart
ment announced today.
This compared with 842 persons
who lost their licenses for the same
offense during May of last year,
and brought total drunken driving
convictions for 1948 to 4,024. The
May drunken driving convictions
were nearly 300 less than In April.
