Farmers Should Check Their Fire Extinguishers Local farmers are advised ! L. F. Weeks, County Farm Agent, to check their fire extinguishers to be certain they bear "responsible seals of approval". Agent Weeks said his warning was based on reports from Fire Protection Institute, a national fire safety organization, that many "un approved" extinguishers have been made available during the past 5 years. "Fire fighting equipment that bears the label of Underwriters' Laboratories or Factory Mutual is generally reearded as tops in the fire protection field," the agent de clared. "TT. fortunately, many ex tinguishei ow being sold have ' not met a-u cannot meet the rigid sDecificatiuns set by- these two testing agencies. To depend on such un-approved extinguishers may prove disastrous in an emer gency." Pointing out that an undepend able extinguisher is about as use ful as a counterfeit dollar, Agent Weeks suggested that one member in each family be designated to check all available fire protection equipment. For real fire safety, you should have an approved type of exting uisher and should know how to use It most effectively. State College Answers Timely Farm Questions Q. How can I best tell if a new collar fits my horse? A. A properly fitting collar should be snug, but not too tight, or too loose, at top where it rests on the neck. There should be space on the aides to run the fingers to collar cap at top of collar, but no more. Collars that are too narrow at top, or on which hames are buck led too closely together at topwill pinch the neck and chafe it, caus ing sores on the siden near the top. If a collar is too wide, it will work back and forth, sideways, chafing top of the neck and cause a sore to start there. Another frequent cause of sore necks is too much weight on the neck yoke, as when a mowing machine has too light a driver to balanee the weight of the tongue. Fasten a weight under the seat, so the combined weight of it and driver will balance the torn gue. It is necessary to get collars that fit and then be sure the hames are the right size for the collar. Kinston Auto Auction EVERY WEDNESDAY," 1:00 P. M.
