Look them over with an imaginative eye, add a little handiwork, put on a coat of paint and come up with something useful and attractive like this terrace outfit Ray Hookway, color con. sultant for Sherwin-Williams, produced this setting by (1) remodel ling Junior's old express wagon into a server for ice-bucket, pitcher and glasses; by (2) converting two old pickle barrel into attrac tive flower pots; by (3) turning an old discarded mirror into a gay dart board; and by (4) modernizing an old vestibule chair into a gay seat and storage unit. Hookway says, "Combining good idea with a bit of painting skilljnakesfor good fun and good sense these budget conscious days." " Veterans, Note The New York State Veterans' Bonus Bureau is being flooded with premature applications for the New York war bonus from former New York veterans who now reside in North Carolina, area veterans' ag encies were notified today by Ger ald E. Rowley, Director of the New York Bureau . "I wish you would help us to get the facts to our veterans who now reside in your State." While enab ling legislation has been passed to legalize bonus payments to Ner, York veterans who now live out aide New York State, this legisla tion is dependent upon the appro val of the people at the polls next November. - "If the amendment is approved, payment to eligible veterans now in other states will begin January 1, 1950. Any applications which are filed in the meantime by such vet erans are, of course, invalid and must be rejected. Yet hundred are being received each day from vet erans who are apparently misin formed." Mr. Rowley said that veterans now residing in North Carolina may apply in 1950 for the bonus, if they meet these qualification: Residence In New York at the time of entry into service and for at least six months prior thereto; active duty as a mebef of the armed forces of the U. S. at any time during the period Dec. 7, 1941 to Sept. 2 1945; and honorable dis charge or still in service. Bonus payments are: $250 for service of any duration outside the continental limits of the U. S. during the war period; $150 for service of more than SO days within the continental limits during the war period; Area, 461,000 acres; divided he twaA JfoTth CkupUoA and Tft&ne Length, 54 mile; width, IB miles. Sometimes during the winter, the temperature of the nail points will be lower than the temperature of the attie. . The nail points can collect frost on cold nights. The warmth of the following day will change the frost to water which can seep into the ceilings and walls of the house, cracking plaster and stain ing wallpaper and paint A remedy for this condition is to ventilate the attie so that out side and inside temperatures will be more nearly the same. Proper length nails are con sidered essential to correct ap plication ol fire-resistant asphalt roofing, and correct application is necessary if the roofing material is to give the full service of which It is oapabba, Nails should be long enough to, penetrate et least 4 inch into in aeci tunicer.
