V II K DUPLIN TUILS FRIDAY, MAY 6th 1943 BAD MEDICINE ?-.-,cri GEORGE PECK &l i- Iii previous articles I have point ed out7 what has happened In Ger many and New. The evidence shows that in those two countries results have been ? most unsatisfactory, from standpoints of both national health and national economy. O : 7nnr Soon France found that the Ger man system was lacking .in many respects and attempts were made to Improve on it. One glaring weak ness was that doctors were force! to cater to patients and make com promises. As a consequence the doctor who was most willing to lis ten to and grant the patient's re quests had the largest and mot lucrative practice. In France the' doctors' fees are very low, ranging from 25c to 50c per visit The patients constantly complain that they do not get the service to which they are entitled, and the doctors grumble on their pact because they are paid too little. In order to enhance their income many Frencn doctors sign sick leave statements for their patients, and then share the money received. Just as In Germany, the doctors in France are not chosen because of their medical skill, but rather be cause of their willingness to cooper ate in deceiving the government all at the taxpayers' expense. , As in other countries cursed with, "Free Medicine" plans it is com mon practice in France for a wom an to secure prescriptions from the physician and then connive with the druggist by trading them in for cosmetics or some other type of product. Thus drggists, too, become part of the plot to cheat the French government. SERVICE? A Yard Wi We've built our reputation on iving our customers the best Jid fastest service. Much of the surplus from the old age pension fund, which was originally intended to be used in supporting government bunds on the market, is now beinq used to pay the deficit in the health fund. As a result French govern ment bonds and the general finan ces of France are "on the rocks' financial experts consider and have so proclaimed that the com pulsory health insurance program is on the verge of bankrupting the French system of government. It is evident that "Fifty Million Frenchmen Can Be Wrong,' and that it was a sorry day for France when she took on "Free Medicine' via Alsascee-Lorraine. The French have paid and are still paying "th rough the noses' in learning that "Free Medicine' is "Bad Medicine. It is just as evident that "One- Hundred-and-Fifty Million Amer icans Will be Awfully Wrong." that it will be a sorry day for us If we permit the Administration to blud geon through Congress its socian zed medicine plan for this nation. Your Congressman and your U. S. Senators would like to hear from you on this subject. Strengtnen their hands by writing to tell them that the price for "Free Medicine" is to high; that you want our Amer ican doctors incidentally, the world's best to continue as free individuals, with every Incentive to become even better; that you, as a prospective patient, wish to consult with and be treated bv a competent, well-paid, private prac titioner, rather than to carry your health problems to an inefficient underpaid, potty bureaucrat.
