1949-50 Federal Migratory Bird
Hunting Regulations
There were relatively few major
changes made in the Federal regu
lations governing the hunting of
migratory birds In North Carolina
for the 1949-50 season as compared
with the 1948-49 season, according
lo Clyde P. Patton, Executive Di
rector of the N. C. Wildlife Resour
ces Commission. The new regula
tions received from the U. S. Fish
and Wildlife Service show a liber
alized waterfowl hunting season
ten days longer than last year, be
ginning noon, November 29, 1949,
and ending one hour before sunset

session limits on ducks remain 4
per day and B in possession, wh'eh
is the fame as last year. The pos
session limit of 15 roots remains
the same as last ye:ir. Although
only 25 American and red-breasted
maiganws may be taken on tl'.e

on these birds is 25 with no pos
session limit after the first day.

fronted geese to be taken in any
one day but not more than 2 of
these birds in possesion. Consid
erable disatisfaction has been ex
pressed by hunters over previous
regulations which permitted on'
goose per day and one in possess
ion. Except for opening day, water
fowl shooting hourse legin one
half hour before sunrise and close
one hour before sunset. In addi
tion to the lawful possession of
2 Canada or white front geest, a
hunter may have 3 blue geese. As
in previous years, there is no open
season on Ross' geese, snow geese,
swan, or brant.

spprtsmen will have one of the
finest game birds added to their
game list
There are no changes in previous
regulations covering the three-shell
limit for, auto-loading or repeat
ing shotguns, baiting, transporta
tion, or post season possession per
iod for migratory birds. Sunday
hunting of all kinds is prohibited
in North Carolina.
Market News
Higher average prices and heavy
volume marked the second week of
sales on the Border Belt flue-cured
tobacco markets. Quality of offer
ings were lower than on opening
week.
Practically all grades advanced
with low orange leaf alid cutters
shewing greatest gains. Most in
creases vere from $1.00 to $3.00
and several grades jumped as much
as $4 to $10. The majority of ave
rages were well above the Com
modity Credit support price.
Volume of sales was extremely
heavy. Some markets have been
blocked since opening day. During
the week 43,900 736 pounds were
marketed for an average of $50.93
per hundred This average was 78c
above the first week.
Quality of olferings was lower
because of more common and lo.v
leaf grades and less fine and choice
qualities. Lugs continued to pre
dominate by a small margin. Chief
marketings were common to good
leaf, fair tc fine lugs, low and fair
cutters and primings. ,
