court of Duplin County, North
Carolina; and that a cause of ac
tion exists in favor of the plaintiff
against said defendant; that this is
a civil action brought to recover
damages to personal property sus
tained by reason of the careless
ness and negligence and willful
acts of the defendant, Oliver Gardi
pee, and that the defendant is a
necessary party to this action and
which cause of action is set forth
in the complaint in this cause.
And said defendant will further
take, notice that he is required to
appear at the office of the Clerk
of Superior Court of Duplin Coun
ty, North Carolina at the Court

Mrs. Effa Brogden
Dies At Calypso
Mrs. Etta Brogden, 80; widow of
the late D. B. Brogden, died at her
home in Calypso Monday, afternoon
after a long Illness. She had-spent
most of her life there and was the
oldest member of the Calypso Meth
odist Church. Surviving are three
daughters, Mrs. Erma Byrd of Mt.
Olive, Una Brogden of Calypso,
and Mrs. L. W. Umstead of Garner;
two sons, L. L. Jennette of Calypso
and Roy O. Brogden of Arlington,
Va.; nine grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. Funeral ser
vices were conducted Tuesday after
noon at 3 o'clock from the Calypso
Methodist Churett by -Rev. A. L.
Chaplin, pastor, assisted by Rev.
R. G. Dawson. Burial was in the'
Calypso cemetery. .
Outlaw's Bridge

afternoon, Oct. 8th with Mrs. Katie
