Da vis and family. view, ' I Winging leisurely across the blue. I was thrilled at the scene I looked upon, Now winging near me in the soft evening sun; -Lovely speckled birds moving along Chirping in concert a sweet happy song. The rear bird is prettiest, there's beauty in the air, A friendly battalion with no 111 wlU there. Only the pleading eyes of the rear bird as he passes by. Winging speedily from me on through the sky. Quickly a rock whizzes through the air, There's a flutter of wings and a bird there Mortally wounded by a sports-loving shark With a stone that went straight to the mark. We're having a special dinner at our house tonight, Amid the soft glow -of canSle light. The others think it's wonderful, but I stand apart. I recall the bird's eyes and It touches my heart. Who cut the diamonds In the early -morning dew For the sun to slip away? Who sent the birds on wings of flight That chirped in nearby trees? Who painted the gold and brown Upon the flowers and leaves For my hungry eyes to see? Beatrice W. Wallace. B. F. Grady. NOTICE State of North Carolina, County of Duplin.
