guest speaker at the State Council
meeting of Negro Home Demon
stration Clubs in Raleigh. March
19, 1950. The meeting will convene
at 10 JO A. M. at the City Audltojv

Demonstration Agent is urging
each club member who is interes
ted in attending to contact her for
details of transportation.

BUREAU NEGRO GROUP
Duplin County Negro farmers
were among the thousand or more
members who reasserted their be
lief in the organization at the sec
ond annual State-wide conference
of the Farm Bureau's Negro mem
bershlp at A, and T College.
Before the sessions ended the
gathering agreed with State Presi
dent A. C. Edwards of Hookerton
that the "Farmer must have a voice
others can hear he must speak in
a collective way today or he won't
be beard be must protect his in
terest through organisation.'
Key speaker John C. Lynn, as
sistant director of the American
Farm Bureau office In Washington
highlighted the business program
with an assault on the Brannan
proposal.
The State Farm Bureau recei
ved his congratulations for its suc
cess in organizing Negro farmers.
North Carolina is the only state in
the country where Negro Farm Bu
reau have their own annual con
vention, Lynn told the audience.
R. Flake Shaw, executive vice
president urged the group to co
operate with the neighbors and
seek always to arrive at a mutual
understanding. He told the farmers
it is their duty to set a standard of
a healthy agrlculure.
A. W. Solomon of Greensboro,
State Negro Field representative,
outlined goals for the 1950 Negro
membership.

The Beulaville colored PTA met
Monday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Distinguished guests were as fol
lows: Miss A M. Kenan, Duplin
County Supervisor; Mr. Henry
Martin, former president of Duplin
County PTA,- (white); Mr. Stokley
Bostlc, Mayor of Beulaville, Pat
rolman Coker, and Rev. Earnest
Gresham, officiating minister and
speaker.
Each speaker spoke on the sub
ject of good manners, behavior and
safety. Highlights were summari
zed In these points: Always teach
and use good manners and behav
ior; Be careful of little things;
Obey the rules; Be your brother's
keeper; Look after our own self;
Do not regard life cheaply. Every
one seemed to have enjoyed the
meeting. Refreshments were ser
ved consisting of chicken saUtd,
crackers, drinks, ice cream and
cake.
