Negro-schools. The tournament,
sponsored by the County Athletic
Association and the Schoolmasters
Club, began Wednesday afternoon
in- the-auditorium of the Magnolia
Ihdustrlal School with 7 schools
-participating. . :
Local teams successfully passed
first round tests by comfortable
margins but failed in the semi
final rounds largely because of in
sufficient stamina to, withstand two

score of 13-18. 'Marie Brunson,

prised the Wallace team by ap
pearing at Forward and accounted

called back to the floor for the
semi-final round of play, this time
against Rose Hill,' top seated team
of the tournament, and lost by a
score of 50-39, after leading in the
first quarter 8-7 and trailing at
half-time toy an 18 to 16 margin.

for 20 of the .team's 39 points. '

49-27. Christopher Hicks and Fred
Williams accounting for 19 and 15
points respectively for the Faison
team. Friday night we lost to the
Wallace boys by a score of 29-27
in a contest that will be long re
membered by everyone present at

ed from King's Methodist Church
Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev.
Donald Peterson, Morman minister,
officiated, assisted by Rev. Dennis
Kinlaw of Faison. Active pallbear
ers were: Frank Chestnutt, Rob
ert and Leslie King, James Jordan,
Huron Grimes and Nathan Sutton.
Honorary pallbearers were Jar
man Sullivan, Percy Sutton, Lewis
Jordan, C. S.v Eldridget Harvey
Murphy and Jesse O. Sutton.
Flower bearers were grandchil
dren and close friends of the de
ceased. She was laid to rest In
the Tom King cemetery beneath
a beautiful blanket of flowers.
Surviving are three daughters.
Mrs. E. W. Fleshmon of Myssa,
Oregon, Mrs. Nancy C. King of
Washington, D. C, and Mrs. Allen
Jordan of the home; one son, Zay
D. Coker of Goldsboro; one brother
H. B. Aldridge of Goldsboro; 12
grandchildren and one great grand
child.

A new 276-page book on "Cucum
hers for Pickles" has been written
by Albert A. Banadyga, manager
of the State College Experiment
Station's vegetable test farm near
Faison, and has just been published.
The exhaustive volume, prepared
after a thorough study by Banady
ga, gives a wide range of aata on
cultural practices, diseases, insects,
flower ratios, and varieties of cu
cumbers. It also reviews the signi
ficance and distribution oi ine
pickle industry.
Another section of the book deals
with reports by various experimen
tal centers on work which they have
