A pro fusion of spring flowers including spirea, iris, verbena and petunias provided floral arrangement for the home. . For high scoring Mrs. Emerson Jones won a double deck of playing cards and Mrs. Marcel Rocque won the same for visitor's high. For traveling Miss Mamie Bethea received a clothespin bag. During the game iced drinks and tidbits were served. The James Kenan Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confeder acy held its regular monthly meet ing at the home of Mrs. L. S. Whit tle on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 with Mrs. Whittle and Mrs. N. A, Mitchell of Warsaw and Mrs. Rob ert Grady, and Mrs. Norwood Boney of Kenansville, Joint-hostesses. Mrs. C. F. Carroll and Mrs Claude Best gave the report of the District meeting held recently in Burgaw. A most interesting ac count of the North Carolina Hos pitals, Doctors, and Nurses during the Confederacy was given by Mrs, Paul Potter. Mrs. Henry L. Stevens, Jr. sang "The Rose of No Man's Land". Mrs. Robert L. West pre sented her mother, Mrs. W. D, Pol lock of the A. M. Waddell Chapter of Kinston. Other visitors were Miss Helen Brown and Mrs. W. J. Mid dleton, Jr. In the absence of the secretary Mrs. Charles Chambers read the minutes. Upon arrival the guests were served punch. At the conclusion of the meeting the hostesses served pink and blue hostess slices and individual cakes in the same colors. About 20 attended. Mrs. Hobbs Wins $250.00 Prize At the Kolleee of Beautv Know ledge sponsored by the Elliott Beauty Supply Co. in Wilson Sun. day and Monday Mrs. Cleo Hobbs oi warsaw won a booth unit, val ued at $25CT.OO. This was the grand prize for ShOD owners and Mrs Hobbs won the award for holding the lucky ticket. The meeting was held at the Cherry Hotel. Three hair stylists participated and every phase of beauty culture from manicuring to permanent waving was covered. Mrs. Hobbs attended eight classes in insruction. Miss Julia Botesky, who assists Mrs. Hobbs in the Hobbs Beauty Salon also attended the Kollege. Lanefield Club The Lanefield Home Demonstra tion Club met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. A. C. Lockamy at her home near Warsaw. Mrs. Lockamy presided. Eighteen members and four visitors were present. Mrs. Harry Phillips reported on Family Life. Mrs. Vance Phillips presented a talk on Dairy. Home Garden was given by Mrs. Annie Mae Qulnn. Arts and Crafts by Miss Sadie Ben nett Mrs. Gordan Kornegay showed a health film on tuberculosis. This was of much interest. After games were played - the hostess served cookies, candy and coca colas. Seniors Visit ECTC About 26 members of the Senior class of the Warsaw High School visited East Carolina Teachers Col lege Friday, accompanied by Mrs. Ben Vernelson and Mrs. J. L. Carr. upon arrival the Seniors heard a welcome address by Dr. Messlck, president of the college, in the Wright auditorium. A picnic bar becue luncheon was served on the campus. After this a tour of the campus was enjoyed. In the after noon the visitors attended a base ball game between ECTC and Ap palachian State College. The final entertainment on the program was a tea dance in the gymnasium. Music Was furnished by Bob Lee's Orchestra: Announce Birth Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Whittle and family at the Pow-Pow Cottage at Carolina Beach over the week end. The Home-Ec girls included Mary Lou Phillips, Claudia Carl ton, Aleene Ritter, Evelyn Davis and Edna Ray West. The group left on Saturday morning and re turned Sunday night. s The Town of Warsaw is proud to state that seven new dwelling hou ses are now under construction and will be ready for occupancy by mid summer. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hudson have also started a home on East Chelly Street. Victim Of Fire A fire in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Laughton Albertson on 408 Gum St. at 4:30 Saturday afternoon resulted In loss of property in the amount of $1500.00. The blaze star ted as a result of a faulty cord to a bed lamp. No one was at home at the time. Mrs. Albertson discov ered the fire. Two beds were total ly destroyed and the window sill and floor badly burned in a bed room. Smoke and water did the greater damage to the house. The intense smoke ruined .all painted walls, woodwork, clothing and much of the furniture. The fire The .million mark for motor ve hicle registration for this year is expected to be passed by June 1.
