BIRTHDAY DINNER Mrs. Julia Miller was, honored on her 87th birthday Sunday, May 28 at the home of her son ,Mr. L. C. Miller at a picnic dinner. Many " friends and relatives attended. CIRLCES MEET Circle No. 1 of the Presbyterian . Church met in the home of Mrs. J. G. Kennedy on Tuesday, "Bight, May 23. The devotional was , led by MiSr Lou Belle Williams followed by prayer by Mrs. M. M. Thlgpen. The Bible Study was presented by Mrs. Bay Cupp. At the conclusion the hostess assisted by Mrs. Win ifred Guy served a chicken salad plate to the 9 present. PARTY HELD Little Miss Martha Sandlin was honored on her 8th birthday on May 23 by her mother, Mrs. I. J. Sandlin, Jr. at a "Dress-Up" party at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Each little guest was presented a cor sage of roses upon arrival. After games, the little honoree served punch and Miss Marie Smith ser ved nuts and birthday cake to the 25 present. r STUDY The Beulaville, Cedar Fork and Hallsvllle Baptist i Churches will hold a Mission Study on Steward ship in Joint session at the Beula ville Baptist church June 2. W, M. S. MEETS ." The Woman's Missionary Society held it meeting in the church Mon day night. Scripture readings were given by Mesdames J. D. Jackson, Annie Bostlc and Lonzie Batchelor. Comments on Scripture and prayer by Mrs. Sydney Hunter, Pres. The program topic "Invisible Bridges" was presented in play form. Those participating were Mesdames Mar garet Hunter, A. L. Brown, and : Lula Q, Brown. The meeting was dismissed by Mrs. A. L. Brown. There were nine members and one visitor present. BIBLE SCHOOL' The Presbyterian Bible School commencement was held Friday night. May 26, with exercises and a picnic supper. The Nursery, Pri mary;! Junior - and Intermediate Departments all participated. Mrs. Winifred Guy gave a playlet on the Life and Works of Christ. There was a display of handiwork made i by children during the two weeks. A great deal of interest was shown In the work and lessons and studies ' were enjoyed by" all. ! MAY BIRTHDAY PARTY Hallsvllle Presbyterian Women celebrated their May Birthday Party Saturday aftenoon at the chudch at 4 o'clock. Meeting opened with song followed by prayer. Mrs. Andrew Miller presided. After busi ness a program was given by Mrs. Ashe Miller, assisted by Mesdames W. F., Herman, and Ralph Miller. A duet, "Take Up Thy Cross" was sung by Mesdames James, and W. J. Miller. At the closet of meeting chicken salad sandwiches, cookies and coca colas were served to the 28 members present i . Presbyterian Women Officers Training Class ' A meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Ashe Miller, District Chairman, May 25 for presidents of the 6th district Mrs. Walter P. Sprunt, Presbyterial President and Mrs. J. W. Farrior, outgoing dist rict chairman were present. Mrs. Sprunt led an interesting discussion on the work of "The Women of the Church". There was eleven churches represented. At the close a chicken salad plate, cup cakes and iced tea were served to the ladies present. The Club room was decorated with Confederate and American flags and red roses. Mrs. ' Dan - Davis, president, pre sided. The meeting was called to order by singing America and the pledge to the flag. Mrs. N. B. Bo gey was in charge of the program, assisted by Mesdames C. B. Guth rie, J. A. Hlnes and A. T. Outlaw. After the business session refresh ments of punch and assorted cook ies were served by Mesdames E. A. Newton,' Myrtle Quinn and Miss Lula Hinson. The meeting was well attended. McKay, Wilbur Adams and George Giles. High score for clublnembers was won by Mrs. Emory Sadler. Mrs. J. A. Scott won high score for vis itors. At the conclusion of the game the hostess served chocolate pie. FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FRIDAY FOR MRS.1 DORA -MURPHY Funeral services were held for Mrs. Dora Marshburn Murphy, 69, on Friday afternoon, May 26, 1950, at Oak Plain Presbyterian Church, near Rose HID. Services were con ducted by Rev. L. L. Johnson of Delwayy assisted by Rev. Peyton Royal of Magnolia. Grandchildren of Mrs. Murphy carried the flowers. Pallbearers were: Messrs H. R. Her ring,' James Smith,' Henry Rogers, David Byrdi Vassar Spearman and Ben Byrd;-" "K Mrs. Murphy Is survived by her husband. Mr.' Daniel B. Judge Samuel James Ervin, Jr., Associate Justice, State of North Carolina Supreme Court was the Commencement Speaker, and the Reverend John Newton Thomas, D. D., Department of Theology, Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va., preached the Baccalaureate Sermon Sunday morning. The Commencement activities included a Class Day Program Saturday afternoon, the graduation exercises of the Preparatory Department Saturday night with Dr. R. Flor ence Brinkley, Dean of Women, the Woman's College Duke Univer sity as speaker, and Alumnae Day on Monday when the graduates were welcomed! into the Peace Alumnae Association. Miss Boney is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Boney of Ke nansville. She attended Kenansville High School.
