In the afternoon ceremony of
Saturday, July 15th in the Mag
nolia Baptist Church, Miss Mildred
Hamilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Edgar Hamilton, became
the bride of James Curtis Geddie.
son of Mr. and Mrs. James Geddie
of Vander.
The Hev. Peyton Royal perform
ed the. ceremony. The wedding
mnsic was rendered by Mrs. Paul
Potter of Warsaw, pianist, and
Mrs. Peyton Royal, soloist, of Mag
nolia. The bride, escorted and given in
marriage by her father, wore a
gown of white nylon Honeymist,
fashioned with a fitted bodice,
sweetheart neckline, full length
sleeves, ending in a point, and a
full skirt falling to a full length
train. Her finger-tip veil of nylon
Illusion fell from a net bonnet trim
med with imported orange blos
soms. She carried a lacy fan of
mixed flowers centered with a pur
ple tfhroated white orchid with
matching ribbon.
The bride was attended by Mrs.
John McBride of Concord, as ma
tron of honor, sister of the bride.
Bridesmaids were Jeannette Ham
ilton of Magnolia, sister of the
bride, Victoria Kornegay of La
Grange aunt of the bride, Frances
Carlton, cousin of the bride, and
Inez Owen of Fayetteville, cousin
of the groom.
The attendants wore gowns of
novelty embroidered organza, fash
ioned after the bride, long sleeves,
carried lacy fans of mixed flowers
tied with matching ribbon and wore
hair clusters matching their bou
quets.
Best man was the groom's cou
sin Dick Upton of Smithfield and
groomsmen were Harold Geddie
and W. M. Owen of Fayetteville
cousins of the groom, John Mc
Bride of Concord, brother-in-law of
the bride, and Lemuel Hardy of
LaGrange, cousin of the bride.
For her daughter's wedding Mrs.
Hamilton wore an orchid crepe
gown with full length lace sleeves
with a purple-throated orchid cor
sage. The mother of the groom wore
. a gown of blue lace over taffeta
. and a purple-throated orchid cor
sage.
Immediately following the cere
mony a reception was given at the
home of the bride's parents for
members of the bridal party and
guests. Guests were greeted at the
door by Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Carl
ton of Warsaw. Mrs. L. H. Fussell
introduced the guests to the recei
ving line, consisting of the wed
ding party and couple's parents.
Others assisting throughout the
house were Mesdames Paul Bass,
Paul PotterTM. T. Tucker, L. C,
Carlton, Peyton Royal, Misses Betty
Jean Johnson, Barbara Tucker, Mir
iam Turner and Carolyn Sasser.
After the reception, the bridal
couple left for a wedding trip. For
traveling the bride wore a two
piece pink trimmed blue crepe
dress and, blue accessories. She
wore the orchid from her bridal
bouquet.
The bride graduated from the
Magnolia High School and received
a Bachelors of Arts degree from
E. C. T. C. Since her graduation
she has. been teaching in the War
saw and Raeford grammar schools.
The groom graduated from Sted
man High School and P. J. C. and
attended E. C.'.T.: C. Since June,
1941, he has been connected with
the Public Housing Administration.
After the wedding trip they will
make their home In Portsmouth,
Va., where Mr. Geddie Is employed.

"POT LUCK" SUPPER
Mrs. Bill Jackson was honoree
Thursday July 20 when Mrs. John
Fonvllle entertained in her honor
at a "Pot Luck" supper. Mrs. Jack
son, the former Miss Ann Nell
Parker of Bowden, with her hus
band and daughter plan to move
to Jacksonville, Fla. this month
Guests were members of the
Mary Herring Circle of the Baptist
Church of which Mrs. Jackson Is a
member. Each member brought a
contribution of food which was
spread on the dining table. The
table was ornamented with 'shmoos'
made from squash. A side table
held a suitcase with gifts for the
honoreer Those attending were:

DISH SUPPER
Last Friday evening the WS of
CS had a covered dish supper at
the home of Mrs. Joseph Surratt,
Sr. Each member brought a contri
bution to the supper which was
served buffet style. The table held
a miniature sugar plum tree for a
centerpiece. Dahlias, potted plants
and gardenias were used elsewhere

H. R. Hipp and Mrs. Charles Car
roll taught the study book "Far
East." Mrs. Surratt was assisted
by Mrs. Joseph Surratt Jr. Mrs.
Daisy Smith was an invited guest.
There were 19 present.
CHICKEN SUPPER
Mrs. George Hopkins entertained
her club Tuesday evening at her
home on College Street. Glads and
petunias were used In the living
room where two tables were in
play. After one progression drinks
and peanuts were served. Recep
tion salad and ritz were enjoyed at
the close of the game. Mrs. Belton
Minshew won a crystal bud vase
for club high. Visitor's high, also
a bud vase, went to Mrs. Annie Mae
O'Leary. Traveling, a novelty pot
holder, went to Mrs. Al Banadyga.

BIBLE CLASS MEETS
Mrs. H. R. Hipp was hostess to
the Sallie E. Johnstone Bible Class
Monday evening at her home. Mrs.
B. C. Surratt presided. Mrs. S. J.
Powell gave the devotional and

Bruce Kink Hutchinson, 59, died
Sunday, July 16th, at 12:15 P. M.
in Duke Hospital, after a long per
iod of declining health. He resided
in Chapel Hill, where he was at
tending Law School of the" Uni
versity of North Carolina. He lack
ed only two and one half hours
graduating, and was scheduled to
take the bar In August. He was, at

for four years as Staff Sergeant
of the Intelligence: Division of the
Army Service forces, in Raleigh,
N. C. Funeral service were conduc
ted on Monday, July 17th, from
the Perklson-Currln Funeral Home
of Oxford, by the Rev. David Yates,
Episcopal minister of Chapel Hill.
The body was sent to Richlands for
graveside services on Tuesday,
July 18th, conducted by Rev. Hard
wick, Methodist minister -of Rich
lands. Burial was in the family
cemetery. Surviving are his. wife,
the former Gladys Rae Strickland
of Warsaw, N. C, his mother, Mrs.
Walter Patton of Marlon, N. C,
one sister, Mrs. Mary C. Chackley
; of Columbia, Mo., and one brother,
Lewis Hutchinson of Oxford, N. C.
Mrs. Hutchinson is the daughter of
Mrs. Nora Strickland. .

ENTERTAINS CLUB
The Warsaw Rotary Club mem
bers and Rotary-Annes enjoyed a
barbecue chicken supper at Bowden
Wednesday evening. This is known
as the George Penny Bar-B-cued
Chicken Supper, an anual affair,
prepared by Mr. Penny himself.
Herbert West of Dallas, Texas, was
the only guest. About 40 Rotarlans
and Rotary-Annes attended.
