RALEIGH BE RECONSTRUCTED I Manteo. The original Fort Kal- eigh, an earthen structure, built in 1585 by Sir Walter Raleigh col onists under the leadership of Gov ernor Ralph Lane will be recon structed soon, it was announced this week by officials of the -National Park Service. Fort Raleigh here on Roanoke Island is the ac tual landing place of the colonists and thus it is the birthplace of English-speaking America. The outlines of the original fort were discovered during 1948-49 by Archeologist J. C. Harrington of Richmond, and will supervise the re-construction.
