by the people of Calypso and glv

two .years. The citizens also in

made all necessary repairs. The
; bank has furnished and equipped
' the building.
The bank of Mount Olive was
established In 1901. Since ; 1920
C. E. Casey has served as President
with T. D. Thlgpen as Vive-President
Directors of the bank are:
H. J. Pope, chairman, S, B. Taylor,
Dr. C. C. Henderson, L. C. Bird,
Jr., Walter T. Cherry, D. H. Out-
law, and E. C. Casey. -

Faison Is leading Calypso in the
finals playoff in the Produce Lea
gue. First game was played this
past week end and the score was
10 to 8 in favor of Faison. Strange
fact was that going into the ninth
the score was 1-0 favoring Faison.

New Machinery For
Calypso Cotton Gin
: The Calypso Gin Company of
Calypso has Just completed the in
stallation of new equipment. It Is
the only cotton gin in the Eastern
part of North Carolina that has
this latest type of ginning equip
ment. The company is owned and
operated by Nelson Ricks and B.
Frank Minshew,
' According to Nelson Ricks of
Mount Olive the installation of the
new Murray Gins and Mitchell
Dryers will Improve the grade of
the ginned cotton which will mean
more profits to the grower.
The gins have 90 new saws and
after-lint .cleaners. Also Mitchell's
new super chief cleaners and ex
tractors have1 been added.

ern North Carolina where the
highest cliffs in Eastern America
drop straight down for approxi

motor - road to. the sumniit of
Whiteside fountain. " , . -
Whiteside (4,930 foot elevation)
is located between Highlands and
Cashiers on US 64. Formerly avail
able only to hikers, visitors may
now "drive to the top in Comfort
upon a good motor road which
in some instances has been cut
from solid rock. Trails have -been
opened that lead to Devil's Court
house and Fat Man's Misery ' ',

A United Nations Flag in every
community is the 'goal of a new
state-wide - project to be started
soon by the home demonstration
clubs and 4-H Club' girls.
The work will be done free for
interested groups that agree to
provide the material. ,.' v .
The flags are true-blue in color,
with white figures. They are to be
three by five feet in size. Material
for . one flag costs approximately
$3.00. ' t- J ' ' -
Poles will be provided by 4-H
Club boys under supervision of
farm agents. ' '
An effort will be made to bave
a flag in every community for fly
