For mcfct wool garments, steam
pressing is the only way to take
out wrinkles, smooth the surface
and sharpen creases. The except
ions are wools sold as washable,
such as chaliis; which may be Iron
ed like other laundered clothing,
but always with a - warm rather
than hot Iron - - and on the wrong
side. - -
Because wool Is so sensitive to
heat and easily damaged by scorch
ing, home pressing needs to be
done with care
Steam-press on the. wrong side,
it wool Is likely to shine from pres
sing, or of the weave, has any rai
sed pattern, It's risky to press I
wool garment with a thin pressing
cloth as is often done. -The wool
may scorch even when the cotton
cloth above shows no sign of it
To steam-press: Cover the wool
first with a dry wool press cloth
and then with the cotton press
cloth dampened in warm water. In
stead of ironing back and forth as
you do with cotton, press by setting
down, then lifting and shifting
warm iron. Press down just enough
to force steam through, the wopl.
Lift the press cloths and beat out
steam left In the wool with your
hand or a wood block. ...
