agents were awarded Distinguished
Service certificates by the National
County Agents Association at its
recent meeting in Chicago.

for their outstanding service are
S. L. Homewood, McDowell; H. H.
Harris, Tyrrell; VeUM. Smith, Sur
ry; W. Riley Palmer, Buncombe;
J. W. Sanders, Vancerand Eugene
H. Qarrion,'Moore. All were selec
ted by a State Recognition Commit

Homewood . graduated at N. C.
SUte CoUege with BS. and M.S.
degrees in agriculture in 1921. He
has served as 'agricultural agent
for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad,
vocational teacher at Barnardsville
and Knightdale,- assistant county
agent 'in Cumberlaad County, and
farm agent in McDowell since 1938.
He Is a native of Alamance County.
Harris received a BJS. in animal
production at N. C. State in 1833.
Ha-has been farm agent in Tyrrell
for the past 18 years., Harris is a
Beaufort County native. . . -
The Surry agent. Smith, haa held
that post since 1943. Born in Moore
County,, he attended N,; C. State
and graduated in 1625 with a de
gree in agricultural education. He
held positions as teacher of agricul
ture inr Warsaw, farm agent in On
slow County, Farm Bureau organi-
er with headquarters at Haiattn,
FSA administrator at--Balighaad
assistant form agent in Vance.
Palmer, also a graduate of State
College with a BS. in agriculture
bt 1937 began his extension career
as assistant agent in Buncombe. He
held this position from 1937 to
1944, at which time he was promot
ed to county agent. '
Sanders, a graduate .of Clemson
College, Clemson, S. C, with a B.
S. in agriculture in 1919, served
for a abort while as field agent for
the U. S. Bureau of Plant Industry.
Ha was assistant farm agent at
Henderson, Ky., lot a few months
during 1919, county agent at Cam
den, S. Cm from 1920 to 1929, and
has been farm agent in Vance
County for the past 21 years.
Garrison, a native of York Coun
ty, s. c, also attenaea werason,
graduating with a B. S- in agronomy
in 1917. After a brief period as
county agent at MoCormlckS. C.
