Cant. James T. Stroud, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Lonnle Stroud of
Pink Hill, having returned from
Korea where he was a member of
the 314th Combat Cargo Wing Of
the Far East Air Torce Combat
Cargo Cpmmand, has een recalled
from ths enlisted orade of master
sergeant to active duty as a cap
tain in the United States Air Force,
it was announced today by Col. N.
H. ;Van Sickle,' Wing Base Com
mander at Sewart Air Force Base.
Priorto his recall, Captain Stroud
was first sergeant for the 5th Troop
Carrier Squadron at Sewart. In
August of last year he went with
the Squadron in that capacity when
It waa placed on temporary, duty
with the Combat Cargo Command
to set up the Korean airlift. Cap
tain Stroud, who is married to the
former Adeline -Winkler of Green
Bay, Wis., has been reassigned to
Lawson' Air Force Base where he
will perform duties' of a classifi
cation and aslgnment officer. .; V
Completes Course
At Law School
Mr. John Harvey Turner of Pink
Hill has recently completed his
course In law at the .University of
North Carolina and will receive his
diploma with the graduating class
in the closing exercises this spring.
Mr. Turner Is a son of Mrs. Helen
Turner and the late Mr. and Mrs.
G. M. Turner of Pink Hill.

There is plenty of activity 'for
the top Grand Champion Steer in
the 11th annual Coastal Plains Fat
Stock Show which is to be held In
Kington April 11th and 12th. 4-Hers
who will have entries- from the
Pink Hill School District will be
Franklin and Clifton Tyndall (with
two steers each), Mack Harper and
Mencel Mivoslaw, son of a displaced
family who live on the Harper
farm.

Mr. Egbert Grady of Pink Hill
entertained his wife on her birth
day, Sunday, Jan. 28, at their home.
The home was decorated through
out with an arrangement of early
spring flowers. A turkey dinner

This is the family of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Peter H. Kornegay of Ke
nansville. Time has not weakened
family ties. Much merriment and
happiness Is always evident at these
get-to-gethers.

comers to Pink Hill and, they are
well pleased at the friendly and
courteous ways they have been re
ceived.

lies at her regular Christmas Holi
day dinner at her home on Sunday,

Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Holden
and 'children of Greensboro have
returned home following a visit
with Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jones,
parents of Mrs. Holden.
Mr, and Mrs. J. F. May spent
the week end at their cottage at
Carolina Beach.
Mr. 'and Mrs. E. M. Sills attended
the funeral of Mr. Joseph F. Hud
son at Wilmington Thursday after
noon. Mr. Hudson who was injured
in an auto wreck Monday night
died late Tuesday., Mrs. Hudson
who was also injured in the wreck
is receiving treatment at the Hen-
derson-Crumpler Clinic In Mount
Olive.
Mr. J. R. Davis returned during
the week end from visiting In Wash
ington, D. C. . .
, Mr. Gordon M. Smith of Stone-
vine visited relatives here during
the week end.
Mr. and Mrs. Rollins Snelling and
children have returned to their
home in Albany, Ga following a
visit with Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Grady,
Mr. Howard Smith who was re
cently inducted Is now at Camp
Gordon, Augusta, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Summerlin
and family were recent visitors in
Roseboro and Salemburg. ; ' v
Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer Maxwell
visited relatives here during the
week end.
Lt. H. S. Hussey
Gets Promotion
Word has been received from
Camp Drake, Tokyo, Japan, that
1st Lt. Harold S. Hussey has been
promoted to Captain- as of Decem
ber 30, 1950,
"Capt. Hussey is a veteran of
World War II. He served with the
35th Inf. Dlv. In Tunesla and Italy;
was awarded the Bronze Star, the
Combat Inf. Badge, and has a com
mendation from the Commanding
General for excellent performance
of duties with the Allied Military
Government In Naples, where ha
served as Judge, helping reorga
nize the Judicial system there. He
is a native son of Lenoir Co., the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Hus
sey. He Is married and has on
daughter. His home Is in Hender
sonvllle, N. C. :
