Jones and the presiding judge was school and is veteran of the world War II. He was a prisoner of war for many months during that time. He is not married. For four weeks, weiaon fhi world's fishlnc caDital and then, as suddenly as they came, the rock are gone. .". ) The run usually starts about mid April. When the call goes out that, the rock have arrived, fishing fever , grips the countryside and almost everyone heads for the river. Many fishermen camp nearby. The chief departure point for fishermen is on the U. S. (Sometimes there are two fishermen ta a boat, which they let drift broadside to the current while hold ing their nets in the water, its quite a trick to dip out a big rock, flip it Into the boat- and resume position before the boat can turn around. Other anglers troll for rock. Ma ny people come Just to look and eat the tasty fish. ,. . During the run, Weldon Is the scene of a fish hatchery operation which iv unique. f The .hatchery, owned by the, town, is loperated Jointly by the North Carolina De partment of Conservation and De velopment, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the U. S. Fish .and Wildlife Ser vice. Heavy-laden female fish are stripped of their eggs (for which the fishermen are paid) and hatch ed.
