Miller, Andrew Miller and Bland Rhodes. Mrs. Homer Winstead gave the secretary report. Mrs Ida Mil ler gave the finance report and plans were made for May, which is the birthday month. Miss Callie Miller, president, presided. Miss Klontz gave a demonstration on "Slip cover making." Following the secretary report the hostess ser ved toasted nuts, cake, peaches, whipped cream and Coca Colas to the 19 present Mrs. James Mller will be hostess to the May meeting. MURPHY MILLARD THIGPEN Murphy Millard Thigpen, 64, son of the late Sarah Sloan and Blthel Thigpen, died Wednesday after noon April 11, 1951 at 4:45 o'clock. Although he had been In declining health for several months, death same suddenly and unexpectedly following a heart attack suffered at vis farm near Beulaville. Born in Duplin county, Feb. 13, .887, Mr. Thigpen had been en gaged in farming for a number of years. He moved to Beulaville from his farm 35 years ago and for a few years operated a mercantile busi ness. Retaining his farming inter ests all the while. He united with the Baptist church early in life and served as a deacon of the Beula ville Baptist hurch for many years, taking a ,'een interest in all reli gious affairs of the town and com munity. He was a member of the town board of aldermen, having served in that capacity on pre vious occasions. Also active in the Farm Bureau, he was a district di rector at the time of his death, and a past vice president of the Duplin Co. Farm County Welfare Board, also. Funeral services were held at the Beulaville Baptish church Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock with its pastor Rev. A. L. Brown officiating, assisted toy the Rev W H Goodman, pastor of the Beulaville Presby terian church and Rev. N. W. Grant, Methodist minister of Bethel, N. C. Active pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: iW. A. Thigpen of Fairbluff, P. E Thigpen, Gordon Thigpen, Jerry Williams, Norwood Fountain and Murphy Simpson. Honorary pallbearers included the following deacons of the Bap tist church: J. W. Cottle, J. D Miller, Sidney Hunter, J D Jackson, William Hunt er, T. Y. Dobson and Arnold Thom as; members of the town board, S. P. Bostlc, Archie Lanier, Gardner Edwards, W. D. Brown and I J Sandlin; officers of the Duplin co. Farm Bureau, Leroy Simmons, Lew is Outlaw, Ellis Vestal and Eu gene Carlton; Welfare board mem ber John Albritton of Calypso. Al so. E. C. Thompson, of Warsaw, La cy Weeks of Kenansviile and the Rev. S. A. Smith ; Twice married, Mr Thigpen was proceeded In death a number of years ago by his first wife, who was the former Ada Bass of Dup lin county. Survivors include bis second wife, the former Mildred Adams of Cedartown, Georgia, one daughter Cells ta K. Thigpen of Ra leigh, three sons by the first mar riage, Winifred P. Thigpen of Beth el, Orvis M. Thigpen and Orzo S. Thigpen of the home community, eight grandchildren and a number of neices and nephews.
