elder id the church when he died.

a successful farmer of the Rones
Chapel community until his re
tirement several years ago when
he moved to Mount Olive.

Bob W. Whitman 81. died Friday
morning June 15 at 5:15 o'clock
at the home of his son David Whit
man in Falaon. He had been 111 for
six months. Funeral services were
held at the "son's home Sunday
at 3 p. m. with the Rev. M. L. God
win .of Dunn officiating, assisted
by the Rev. Dennis Kiniaw, Meth
odist minister of Faison. Burial
was in Maplewood cemetery there.
Surviving-are three sons, David,
with whom he lived; Robert of Mt
Olive, Rt 2, and Alfred of Hope
well, Vs., three daughters, Mrs. Na
than Tadlock of Calypso, Mrs.
James Gyles of Calypso and Mrs.
Robert Miller of Mt. Olive, Rt. 4.
One brother, Charles Whitman of
Mt. Olive and 12 great-granchil-dren.
He bad been a member of
North East Free Will Baptist
church near here for about 50
years.

Service Offered
The U. S. Department of Agricul
ture's free cotton classing and mar
ket news services a"have proved
their worth in the past, .and are
all set to do it again this year,"
Lacy Weeks, county agent for the
State College Extension Service,
said this week In reminding grow
ers that the deadline for applying
for the services is drawing near.
Mr. Weeks pointed out that the
free classing and market news ser
vices are available to all grower
members of cotton improvement
groups. Applications, however, must
be filed through such groups, large
or small.

must be filed not later than Aug-
gust 15. It. is desirable, howeverH
that applications be tiled well in

any time-and simple lo snake so that yon can have them any time, too.
I 1 package chocolat pudding and pit filling mxx
02 cups milk
1 tgg yolk, slightly beaten
'4 ttaepoon peppermint extract
6 or 6 baked 4-inch tart thellt
" Baked Meringue Puffs, tinted pink
XpVaee pie flUing powder in saucepan. Combine milk and egg yollt; add
to pie filling powder gradually, blending well. Cook and stir over
medium heat until mixture comes to a boil and is thickened. Remove
from heat and add peppermint extract. Pour mixture into bowl. Chill.
Then beat slowly with rotary egg beater. Place by spoonsful in tart
shells. Garnish each tart with a pink meringue puff. Makes 5 or "6 tarts.
- Baked Meringue Puff: Beat 1 egg white until foamy throughout. Add
2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating after each addition
until sugar is blended. Then continue beating until mixture will stand
in peaks. Fold in a few drops red food coloring,
v ; Pour cold water into shallow baking pan to just cover the bottom. Drop
meringue by spoonsful into pan. Bake in moderate oven (375 F.) 15
minutes, or until delicately browned. Cool. Makes 4 to 6 puffs.

Duplin schools and the Duplin
Times are getting publicity at BOC
aocordlng to reports from the ins
titution this week. The report said
there was an education exhibit on
display there showng work from all
parts of the state. Prominent In
the display is the 1950 education
edition of the Duplin Times and
the story on the spring art and work
exhibit here that appeared In the
News and Observer. The story, in
cidentally, was written by the Dup
lin Times. (Not patting ourselves
on the back).
