his foot Thursday.
We stopped at the coolest look

big shade trees all around. The
people that lived there were driv
ing off just as we got there so I
didn't get to find, out their names.
They had a pipe connected with a
natural spring. The water was con
tinually flowing from the pipe and
did it look cool and refreshing. We
wanted a drink very much but didnt
dare get it because the people were
not there
The highway from Hallsville to
the Beulaville, Kenansville high
way was really torn up. I don't
know whether it iwas caused by the
heat or what, but It had big holes

' A number of ' Explorer ' scouts
from Tuscarora Council will par
ticipate this year In an expedition
to the famous Phlbnont scout ranch
located at Cimarron, New Mexico.
This expedition will leave the
Council area on August 9 for a 20
day tour, which will include such
highlights as the Cherokee Histori
cal Pageant, "UntoTheae Hills";
a one day visit to Mexico, lunch 750
feet below the earth's surface at
Carlsbad Caverns, a seven day hor
seback cavalcade through the ma
jestic mountain ranch at Philmont,
a visit to Lookout mountain In Ten
nessee, a visit to a steel mill in
Birmingham, a trip through the
Texas oil fields and a visit to four
State capitals.
The scouts from Tuscarora will
combine with those from East Caro
Una Council at Wilson and the
Cape Fear Council at Wilmington,
and will travel in a chartered bus.
The trip will take the group thro
ugh 13 states and Mexico. Scout
trained adult leadership will be
with the group throughout the
trk. The total 20 day. trip " will
cost $130., exclusive .'of iooden-f
