c EGG EATING IS HARD TO CONTROL Poor feeding and poor manage ment practice art the cause of much trouble la poultry-raising, trouble which in most instance can be avoided. When birds are -1 t. " ... ..Tr 1 Mi-iy it4 and receive luae at-l tairtton from the management; standpoint, they frequently turn to the vice. Such is the case with egg eating, like cannibalism, one of the major voice of poultry. What starts an outbreak of egg eatmg in a flock? . The answer is thinshelled eggs. Such eggs get broken easily. Naturally, birds see ly, birds seeing the broken eggs about the poultry house, start pick ing at them. Vitamin D Needed ' At first sign of egg eating In the poultry flock the raiser should check to see ebat his birds have access to plenty of clean oyster shell or limestone grit, direct sun shine, an adequate supply of cod liver oil or other source of Vitamin D. In order to make thick, strong egg shells, birds need both lime and vitamin D In adequate (plentiful) amounts.
