College Meet April 29th The Duplin County Chapter of the Alumni .Association of East Carolina College will bold a meet ing Tuesday, April 29 at 7:45 p.m. in the Kenansville School Auditor ium in KenansviUe. . An Alumfii Representative of E. C. C. will be the guest speaker at this meeting, and aU members oi the County are urged to attend. in our county for it'few years to continue.. Election time is coming up. What are you voters v going to do about it? Are you Willing to question k a candidate's personal integrity and character? Are you willing to believe some of the reports you hear , about them? When you know that money, in large sums, is going around in the interest of a candi date are you willing to overlook the matter and say "they all do it?" Any decent thinking person knows that when huge sums of money are going around in the interest of a candidate that candidate has al- - " ready figured some way to get that money back. Horace Greeley once said that the darkest hour in any man's life is when he sits down to figure out ; how to get something for nothing. It is ,not nec essary.to actually see the money passing to know that it is going around. Money is like liquor. You cannot hide it in the dark, its shadows will appear just as sure as it is exposed." Let's bring the money i changers out into the open. They are doing much more damage to the morals and integrity of our people than all the liquor manufactured in the, woods of Duplin. Let's bring it all out into the open where we can see, smell, and judge it. Trust an honest question to an honest public arid you will get an honest answer that will benefit the whole, and make for a wholesome county. ;v 1 Let's give some serious thought to these mat ters. Let's do some snooping. Not just the reporter but every honest citizen in Duplin County. Let's be fair, and honest with our children. . Let's clean up the mess now in Duplin and make a better place for our children to live in tomorrow. Jt' wasn't so bad when we came along. It has gotten bad since our coming and we are morally responsible. Ignorance Of Law Is Ho Excuse Year be springing or year be fall- Trash, junk, garbage, litters are all ugly words and give a meaning of disheveled, disorderly, unkept . . . not what we would like to be able to say about our highways. Did you know that it is against the law to dump trash within one hun dred feet of a highway? That you are liable to a fine of fifty dollars for throwing garbage or tin cans on another's property There are 200 miles of highway in Duplin County that have been paved under the bond issue. Some of them could be beautiful drives if it were not for garbage and tin cans that some of our thoughtless people nave thrown by the road side. 't .!-..!' The 27th District Council of H. D. C. clubs passed a resolution about the beautificatioB of our State highways, and the members will do all in their power to make our roads neat and attractive. The Highway Department is responsi ble for the building and the main tenance of our roads, but It is our individual responsibility to keep them clean. . .Don't break the law. Duplin Draft Board Official : Resigns lng. The bark will drip and the birds be calling, There's much that's fine to see and hear In the spring of a year, in the fall of a year.
