the U.S. Army is In need of Offic
ers . The Army needs more officers,
so opportunities have been in
creased whereby qualified men and
women from civilian life may be
come commissioned officers. Va
rious Officer Candidate School pro
grams have been set up. Appli
cants without military background
must first take a basic training
course before being appointed to
an Officer Candidate School. The
OCS program lasts 22 weeks. Now
the young man from high school
can apply with T Sgt. Jack Cuta
way, Jr., USA and USAF Recruit
ing Officer in Warsaw, N. C. and
can be assured that he will be a
qualified applicant for Officer Can
didate School, before he enlists in
The US Army for only a two (2)
year term. (This is the only way,

ploma and a good bit of horse sense

throughout the State as Mental
Health Week is observed May 4-10
under the sponsorship of the North
Carolina Mental Hygiene Society
and cooperating organizations.
As outlined by those wftor are

illness and the treatment of the
mentally ill, the outstanding men
tal health needs of North Carolina
are:
(1) A school for colored feeble
minded children.
(2) Admissions and hospital
building for the State Hospital at
Morganton.
(3) Additional spree for white
feebleminded children at Caswell
Trianing School.
(4) Additional facilities for the
care of elderly persons in the coun
ties or local communities.
These facilities are either totally
lacking or are inadequate
